I had some issues moving Plex from a Windows machine to my new NAS. I was able to get the metadata to start working where all I had to do was delete the old folder and add a new folder and all the metadata was saved (family members want to know watched/unwatched) but I was having a problem with new shows and movies not allowing movie posted to be added/changed. I ended up breaking something and plex wouldn’t start so I backed up the metadata and media folder and removed and reinstall PMS. I moved the Metadata and Media folder back into /Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server changed permissions/ownership on the two folders and restarted the server but metadata is not loading now.
Thanks for the quick response. I followed your instructions and it worked. I ended up also having a corrupt database but luckily I had another older copy.
One issue I am still having, I had one show without a poster. When I try to change it there are no options so I upload one from the internet and it loads it into Plex but it does not update the poster. If I go back into the edit the poster the one I uploaded it there but still not loading. If I go into the TV show the poster I added is there but still not on the library page. I added two new shows and both of the posters there came up. I also changed a movie poster to a different one that downloaded when the movie was added and it updated. Can you think of why I cannot add new posters from urls?
I still cannot change the show posters in TV Shows. I went into one TV show that had multiple to choose from and it let me change successfully. I went into a different TV show and downloaded a poster and tried to change it but it fails to update. It does change in inside the show. See the images below.
There are times when “Refresh all metadata” is really helpful with TV.
It has the side effect of also clearing all the caches. This is what we are probably seeing here.
Forcing refresh makes it look again at what’s present.
Again, thank you for the suggestion. I ran the refresh but no changes. I’ve been searching for maybe a folder/file permission issue but no luck. Not sure where to look
If the username you copied the files in with doesn’t allow “Everyone” to read it, then Plex (being in that Users or Everyone classification) isn’t going to be able to see it.
Linux defaults are to not permit access to anything not specifically granted.
I suspect this is what you might be dealing with.
In the “Syno FAQ” you’ll find How-To’s I’ve written about dealing with it (including screenshots)
When I moved all the files into the appropriate folders (metadata, plug-ins, etc) I went back to the Plex share (volume1/Plex), ssh’d into the box and did a ‘chown -R plex.users Plex’ and ‘chmod -R 700 Plex’ just to make sure all permission where correct.
I also have the media in share /volume1/downloads and changed all the media folders the same way.
I have media in /volume1/downloads and not in /volume1/Plex
I have started over.
I copied Media, Metadata Plug-ins and Plug-in Support from Plex share,
Uninstalled PMS
Deleted the Plex Share
Rebooted Synology
Reinstalled PMS
Started PMS
Shutdown PMS
Moved the folders back into the Plex share
Edited permissions like the guide says
Started PMS
The library is all there but still cannot change poster for TV shows
Thanks for trying. I have tried everything and I cannot get this issue to clear. I guess I will have to live with it. Thank you for your replies and efforts.
