Backing up all data including media data

Server Version#: 4.147.1

Hello,
I have Plex running on Peppermint Linux.
I have a lot of manually edited media data and hate the idea of having to re-edit everything, for hours.

My question is how can I save this data as a back-up?

The reason is I need to reinstall the OS, which will mean a new installation of Plex.

So hopefully someone will have a answer on how to save everything.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply and link, I have not been able to get that method to work.

I have also tried to access though a live disk but, preferences.xml will not copy over.

To be truful I’m at a bit of a loss, any surgestion welcome.

Is PMS fully stopped as you create the .tar.gz ?

Also, if space is not a concern, you can remove the z (compress) option.
It will finish much quicker. It will be dependent on disk / network speed only.

It would become:

sudo bash
tar cf /path/to/somewhere/PlexBackup.tar ./Library

Thanks you for your up-dated reply.

Plex server stopped by:
sudo service plexmediaserver stop

I can’t get any of the commands in the link to work, it maybe it’s something to do with Peppermint/Debian and not real understanding Linux is not helping.

I have a copy/back-up apart from preferences.xml, which I obtain by running a live disk. I know plexmediaserver has stopped as the OS has not booted.

Zipping/Tar is not really a problem has I have plenty of space to save it to.
