Backup and restore my Plex Library

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hello,

I have been really taking care of my Plex media library, with playlists, collections… I had to reinstall my PMS. So I thought I could use my backup and all my settings (including playlists, artwork, collections) would be copied as well.:frowning_face: NO, nothing, it started to create the collections from scratch! So all my personal settings were gone!
What did I do wrong???

Can anyone explain to me how I do my backups and restore for a DS918+? I work on OSX. PMS server is on the NAS.
What I did (but did not work):

  1. I copied all the files stored under the Plex directory in my NAS on an external HD
  2. I copied the com.plexapp.mediaserver.plist on an external HD
  3. I removed Plex from the NAS
  4. I copied the Plex directory back into my NAS (under Plex)
  5. I copied com.plexapp.mediaserver.plist in my Library/Preferences on my Mac

Result: no personal items copied (like collections, tags, etc.). I am definitely doing something wrong, but what?? I looked on the plex aide webpage, but that doesn’t help

Please help?

Did you find/use the instructions from this support article?

Thanks tom80H,

I still do not know what is meant with : " For Linux/NAS systems, make sure that the directories and contents are all owned by plex:plex (or whichever user you have running Plex Media Server under)."
Do I have to make every folder in Application Data ‘read and write’?

Correct.
On Synology, the application data is stored on a hidden share called Plex. There’ll be a local account called plex which should have read/write permissions to that share (ideally only plex should have to avoid others from messing up the data.
