Banana Pi

Hi

is it possible to get rasplex run on the banana pi?

Since the 'Banana Pi' has different hardware it obviously needs different device drivers, so it would require a different port of the OpenELEC OS.

With such an OS available it would of course be possible to port RasPlex to that platform as well, though RasPlex too would need recoding to make use of the new hardware features. (Though many would be irrelevant to a RasPlex port, such as camera+microphone inputs and local SATA HDD.)

In any case, it is definitely NOT something that can be done in short order. It will be a major project in its own right, if done at all.

And that is largely decided by whether or not the 'Banana Pi' survives on the market. (Your mention here was the first I ever heard of it... ;) )

thank's for you answer

maybe it's easier to just put the Plex Androidapp to Android 4.2 for Banana Pi (also an an SDCard) and stream with it from the PlexServer or do you think the performance would be bad?

If an Android 4.2 image with decent performance really is available for it, then that might be the best choice.

I will be trying this soon SwissBanana.

I hope the BananaPi survives, it is superior in every way to the Raspberry Pi and for anything media related, more power is always good.

It may interest you to know that there are a few active support forums for the BananaPi, where the forum members are actively developing new SD card image files, including rebuilding Android images completely from source. The best images available today use Android 4.2, and there are variants available both for 720p and 1080p. I am myself active in one of those forums as I've acquired a BPi since my last post in this thread.

If you visit "http://forum.lemaker.org/forum.php" you will find a lot of information and downloads for the BPi.

And even faster/better than a BananaPi is the Hummingboard i2ex.

I've got one of those(Cubox i2ex) and running the latest OpenELEC with Kodi Beta(PlexBMC plugin) is just miles and miles better then the Pi in terms of raw performance. The GUI is completely fluid none of those annoyances that the Pi suffers especially with big libraries.

The rasplex guys have said they are "working" on a port to the Cubox/Hummingboard but they are limited by PHT that won't support the Freescale architecture until the merge with Kodi happens, and nobody knows when that'll be...

Other boards and set-top boxes may be very interesting and faster than the BananaPi (eg: The OUYA has a quad-core CPU, so it’s LOTS faster), but the original poster included the product name “Banana Pi” in the thread title, so I think we should respect that and not turn this into a discussion of other boards. For that we can make new threads.

As for RasPlex support for other boards than the RPi, the most crucial part is that there must be an OpenELEC release for such a board, since RasPlex is a combination of “Plex Home Theater” with “OpenELEC”.

That's fair, but some of the posts related more to the fact that faster is better so I just wanted to ensure that people know that the BPi isn't the only option if you are looking for something similar to the RPi but with a bit more horsepower.

Still no way to run Rasplex on banana pi?

No, seems unlikely now that the Raspberry Pi 2 is out.

My father in law ordered the banana, i told him to get a rapsberry now there are a banana. So how do i get plex on it the easiets way. go with android?

Suggest you try in the Plex General Discussions forum.

There are several different 'Android 4.2' card images available for the BPi, and the "Plex for Android" client runs fairly well on most of them. I would not recommend using any of the "Android 4.4" card images though, since those I've seen are all 'unrooted', and I find that a serious system handicap.

Another option would be to use XBMC/Kodi with the PlexBMC addon and the Plex-oriented Amber skin, making XBMC seem like a real Plex client.
Such PlexBMC setups can be used on most platforms, including BananaPi Android and Linux distros.
