Hi We are a hotel and I’m looking for a basic plex player on which I can stream a music playlist from our plex server. Any suggestions?
I suppose this is not a basic feature, but it would be a bonus if the player had some sort of compressor to regulate the overall volume of the playback. Thanks
Plexamp doesn’t need a compressor. It uses the loudness analysis data, which the server creates on ingestion and during nightly maintenance runs.
So make sure not to disable these!
Plexamp will simply play “hot” mastered tracks at a lower volume, than “soft” mastered tracks.
The end effect is a perceived equal loudness between tracks, but without the change in “character”, which a compressor inevitably causes.
Also, it uses ‘Album Loudness’ and not ‘Track Loudness’, which works very well with genuine albums which were mastered well. However, it falls flat on its face if you have “made-up” albums, where the tracks have not been mastered together.
Thanks for this. I’ve seen the setting, but I didn’t connect the dots here.
I have Analyze for loudness set as a scheduled task, Thanks. That should be all I need, correct?
As a result of this method, the overall volume will be a bit lower than other players. This is to prevent digital “clipping” on lesser compressed tracks. You should be able to compensate with the amplifier volume.
Depending on the size of your collection, it may make sense to adjust the hidden server preferenceRadioDaysSinceLastPlayed to something longer than the default 2 days.
i.e. if you have much more than 2 days worth of music
