BBC1 HD Not working

For approx one month the Live TV is no longer working for BBC1 HD channel.
All other channels work as expected.

I have deleted and re-added the tuner multiple times and checked my antenna to ensure that BBC1 HD is received correctly (it is).

I have also tried on different plex players (mac, ios) and they all report the following:

Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.

What tuner are you using and what OS are you running PMS on?

Does the issue tie in with when your region moved to local Freeview BBC1 HD channel ?

Hi @e10kstarfire
The tuner is a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD. I cannot confirm for definite but it seems to coincide with the region move.

Hi, ah OK I have a HDHomeRun myself and run PMS on Linux.

Are you using Windows? Presumably it works OK using the Hauppauge supplied software on the same system?

Yes, running on Windows 10. The native Hauppauge software was not working but after a rescan it works fine on bbc 1 and bbc 1 HD.

Plex is still reporting the same error.

Do you know how to completely remove the Live TV settings? Everytime I delete and re-add it seems to ‘hold onto’ the existing settings.

When I’ve needed to I just delete the whole DVR (Settings → Live TV & DVR → Delete DVR)

Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to clean up everything. When I delete and re-add it still shows existing versions of previous found channels and it doesn’t actually seem to rescan channels.

Does anyone at PLEX know how i can delete the LIVE TV settings from a windows filesystem?

I’ve resolved this now.
The problem is that the Live TV add/delete never fully starts again so my list of channels actually has around 4 different versions of a scan. I selected each BBC1HD in turn and eventually found the one that is actually working.

Now if Plex could resolve the live tv playing on a mac bug then I would be golden!

hey ricky,

im having the issue where BBC One HD wont tune, it shows in the EPG but when you try to view or record the channel it fails. I’ve tried deleting the DVR and re-tuning but i only have one instance of the channel to select from? not 4 as you mentioned.

Can you give me any more pointers on how you got this working?

Hey @Cookie123 this is the bit that I think resolved it for me.

Note - On my m1 mac all channels refuse to play live. our iOS, android and smart tv’s i don’t have this problem. If you have an m chip Mac then this is a known issue with Plex that hasn’t been resolved yet.

  1. Delete the settings.
  2. Re-add and change your postcode slightly (I changed it to the centre of the town i live).
  3. Wait for the scan to finish.
  4. I got additional channels in my list. I worked my way through the list and selected the channel that had the higher signal rating.
  5. Restart my plex server and also my client.
  6. seemed to work.

good luck!

Hey Rickie,

Thanks for the help, i have sort of figured out, partly with your guidance and partly via some randomness.

So i did what you said, and basically i changed my postcode slightly. I have a quad tuner, so have to add 2 tuners at a time. After the first pass, i checked BBC One HD and low and behold it worked.

I thought great, proceeded to add the other 2 tuners, exactly the same process, same post code etc and after it had finished adding, and doing the EPG guide i tried BBC One HD and boom, the error was back and it wouldnt tune and so on.

So i then went back into my tuner settings, removed BBC One HD (unticked) from my second instance of two tuners, saved, it re downloaded the EPG and it worked again, so go figure that one out.

So it works, but BBC One HD is only available through 2 of my 4 tuners i think. Who knows but as long as it works and i can record it again its fine.

I got rid of Sky, as only had the basic package, and bought a tuner card so i can record on plex instead and save myself £30 a month, but my god DVR on plex isnt plain sailing to say the least!!

glad it’s working! Live TV when it was first introduced was great. Worked really well but as time has gone on it seems to have got more and more unstable. Fingers crossed no more weird issues crop up.
