Hello. I was thinking about building a server for plex with beast components, or beast internet, to be able to share it with 1000 or even 10.000 people.
Is this even possible?
What can be the bottleneck of this?
Is there a limit of users that I can share my library with?
Would a 1gb/s or 10gb/s internet connection be enough?
Do I need a beast CPU(INTEL or AMD) or a beast GPU(like a QUADRO P4000)?
I really dont know anything about it but I really wanna build this.
No offense to you, but based on the two questions posted since joining, you seem to want to make a profit out of sharing your media. Be very careful as this could be seen as breaking copyright laws.
I am fully aware of that, I am just curious of the limitations and if it is possible. I can also just built the server together with them, I think this is better and a lot more simple.
I currently run my plex system on a refurbished business desktop that has had no problems with running 8 streams simultaneously at 1080p and 2 live tv streams of OTA (more with the added HDHomerun quatro I recently got). But as for a 1000 or more simultaneous streams your looking at profesional rack server status IMO (for cooling and power) not to mention if your adding OTA live tv streams (Silicondust does have school/business devices) plus your ISP may have issues with this kind of activity.
That is interesting. I have an i7 7700k and gtx 1080 now and when I stream 4k on my TV on full quality, the fans go crazy :)))
And I tought there’s not only internet speed involved, that’s why I wanted to know if it’s really possible at all.
I cant understand too much from this answear…
Is there a limitation to how many people can watch in the same time, or?
I tested mine with the 10 streams while my 2 daughters where at school and using their phones on campus, the 4 roku devices in my house, 2 desktops and 2 phones on my internal network and my server was tapped at max, but no loss in picture quality or buffering. I believe there is a 15 user limit, but could be wrong.
It is, but for like management users I think, Home Users. For guests, or sharing, couldnt find anything about a limit untill now.
The limit is 100, and 15 of those (including yourself) can be in your Plex Home.
