Is there any limitations for number of connections/clients?
How many devices/clients could I connect to my server at the same time? (10/20/100 or even no limit at all?)
(I’ve installed latest version of server for ubuntu x64 (1.0.2))
The software itself imposes no limits.
The practical limits are more likely defined by your network upstream bandwidth and the throughput of your storage system. And the performance of your CPU of course.
I do not believe there are any imposed limitations bot there are practical ones. The server/network/internet(for remote access) chain must be able to support whatever number of clients and that will impose some practical limits.
There is a limit for “Home” users but that is only when you have a Plex Pass and enable the “Home” functions.
I have a friend that lives in a sprawling estate with an extended family and a few resident employees (totaling about 35 people) and they are setup on a closed network. The actual number of users is about 25.
As his network and number of user grew (He does not bother to get his media into the “best” format for each user) he found that even with a very powerful server about 12 streams being transcoded would max out his server. (Some of those may not have been transcoding.)
What he has done is set up two servers (A third is planed. Yes he is pretty wealthy.) and balance the load by giving each user access to only one of the servers. Since any given user is only allowed only one of his servers the watched status etc is tracked well.
He does NOT share his server outside of his network so that is not part of his load considerations.
It is not uncommon, during the winter, to have 15-20 streams going at once and that pushes his systems a bit.
So, as I said earlier, there really is not any imposed limits but there are practical limits depending on what you want to do and how you want to do it.
