Hi all, really like the latest version! Just wondered though, what benefit does Rasplex give over the plugin for XBMC, say in Xbian? That seems to handle most things fine although I'm sure theres added features here!

Rasplex is literally the desktop client ported to raspberry pi, so unlike the plugin, it doesn't suck.

whoa Dale.
I love your work man but I find this a bit offensive to the creator and maintainers of PlexBMC. The plugin does not suck it works very good for it purpose and has been my saviour in the Linux world until PHT.
A native client is always better but to say the plugin is sucks is just wrong and harsh.
With that said I need to just applaude you on your work on the Raspberry client. I will finally have some use of mine that has just been sitting ducks under the TV.

As someone who has used the plugin, I don't think that it works terribly well, but that's because of the limitations of the plugin framework in XBMC.
So, it's probably coded right, but trying to compare it to actual PHT... it just doesn't compare. If I were to list the differences between the two, the list would be very long.
For instance, the plugin doesn't support myplex, doesn't do any caching, the list goes on...
Maybe it's better than the last time I tried it.
I would like to apologize to the creators of the plugin, if they've read this.
However, there is really no basis for comparing rasplex to the plugin. I guess the major benefit the plugin has is that it actually works completely and is stable, where rasplex is still very new and experimental.

It supports both of those things now. If by caching you mean metadata and posters, it does that. Also, the custom quartz skin brings all the plex libraries to the home page so it's not tucked away in the add-on section.
I would like to apologize to the creators of the plugin, if they've read this.
Don't worry, it's not the first time someone's taken a pop at it...
EDIT: And just to keep this on topic. The RPi is pretty weedy CPU wise, so running the plugin, on top of XBMC does mean it's not particularly fast (instantiating a python instance it what takes the time). It's not super slow, but could be better. Obviously a native client should run better, when created.
I was a little of my game yesterday and kinda felt the need to defend PleXMBC that has been the the saviour for me on my HTPC since I have a tvcard and uses the livetv function in XBMC (no more needed, I am so happy with the PVR fork of pht)
The point with it all was that you just don't attack other peoples work with saying it sucks without actually giving a reason for it.
Well I overreacted and I apologise for that.

It got me to look at the recent development (last time i tried was in September), and there's been some pretty amazing work Hippojay!
We might have to steal some of your work ;)
I can't wait until RasPlex is as stable as this plugin!

I have wanted for a plex home theater fork with livetv/PVR and you just made my day! do you have a link to this fork? I am so interested in looking into this! Will it work with Maraschino?
