RasPlex Ideas

Add your ideas / feature requests here!

My immediate idea doesn't involve any software change, but is merely that you add a link to the sourceforge release page into the 'release' thread in this subforum.

That's where I get my RasPlex downloads and it makes little sense to duplicate the repository here on this site.

(Unless the forum rules forbid links to 'external' DL pages, which I'm not sure of...)

Best regards: Ronald Andersson (aka: dlanor)

We'll have a flashy new website in a week, that'll handle all the download needs.

The releases thread is just for release notes.

Fantastic work by the team on this, great that your have a sub forum here now and i can't wait for what the next few weeks brings.

I have a couple of requests/questions if you don't mind:

  1. Am i correct in saying over-clocking of the PI is being done automatically as part of the build?
  2. Is OMXPlayer being used as the sole core media player? I did see some FFMPEG talk on Trello so am slightly confused.
  3. Is there a plan for PI space on the Plex wiki?
  4. Is there a plan to put a roadmap up so that people are aware of what features are coming and do not continually request them?
  5. I notice there are issues with DTS decoding on the PI, are you planning to get round this like PleXBMC by transcoding the audio on the server if passthrough is not enabled in settings and where on the roadmap is this expected?
  6. Is there a plan to add an option in the installer to install using a USB stick as well for enhanced performance and where on the roadmap is this expected?
  7. I know you have mentioned Live TV before, is this going to be to add to the PI (like XBMC) or just to connect to a remote server (i am not even going to ask where this is on the roadmap as i presume it is far down the road)?

  1. Yes, we use medium-high overclocking by default, it won't affect your warranty
  2. OMXPlayer is the core, but it links to FFMPEG
  3. We will have our own wiki
  4. The roadmap will be on rasplex.com when we launch on March 14th. The current best guess of this is trello
  5. Yes
  6. Yes
  7. Yes. We generically plan to support everything that XBMC does.

Fantastic, this really is going to be a great few months.

One more feature request that came to mind:

Make use of purchased codec licences e.g MPEG2 where available (maybe also allow the entering of the licence codes through the Plex preferences); especially important for DVD images, PVR recordings and live TV.

Good idea, but currently OMXPlayer will just know if it has an MPEG2 license or not. You do have to manually enter it, adding a gui option is something to look into.

I have a fature request, but I don't know whether it'll be possible. Can you please incorporate a client-side scrobbler in Rasplex for Trakt.tv

I have been requesting this for Plex/HT for ages. If you guys could add one in Rasplex, they might consider doing it for the Desktop version as well.

Hi, it would be great if we could get notifications working, XBMC and Plex currently have this so shouldn't be too hard to implement.

To clarify, i mean the notifications you can get from applications such as Sickbeard, couchpotato, plex server, etc, to say your show has downloaded, Library updates, etc.

We are built on top of PHT, so if it gets in there, we'll get it :).

What do you mean by client side scrobbler? I need a better description :)

  1. Able to boot to nfs root that can be auto - updated.

  2. Be able to run XBMC program addons such as Navi-x, etc.

Take a look here:

http://trakt.tv/downloads/plex

It's a Plex Media Server Plugin that tracks whatever your watching on any client and updates your Trakt account ;)

Currently, XBMC is actually included in the image... so you can do this already.

Oh sweet! That looks very good. We'll add this for sure (might be a while though, still working on stability issues. Merges, speedups, and channel support are the priorities on my docket).

dale, no need to do anything client side.

Just needs installing on the Media Server and it tracks whatever your watching on any client, Raspberry Pi or whatever :)

Currently there exists a plugin installs on the server that will scrobble what we are playing to Trak.tv. It is a bit of a hack at this stage (it monitors the logs looking for playback to start). It would be much better if scrobbling could be done in the client. http://trakt.tv/api-docs

The problem with server-side scrobbling is that it breaks the moment more than one video is being streamed from the server at once. If scrobbling could be enable at the client end it would work much better.

One feature I would love to see is a GUI for setting up the Wifi. The current method is rather clunky, and difficult to use. There should be an easy way to browse available Wifi networks and connect to them, entering the password when prompted.

It would also be good if Plex could display a popup notification when Wifi/ethernet connects/disconnects (maybe it already does - I don't know whether mine is working!). This would help us know that we are connected correctly.

I am trying to use an Edimax dongle (EW-7811Un) to try and get Wifi working - so far I have no idea if it is connecting or not, or even working.

Yes. this is known to be a rather huge hack atm, we just wanted to make sure we supported some form of wifi connection.

When this gets far enough along it'd be cool to have it in AUR for an easy way for Arch users to get it and get updates.

I love Arch Linux. Absolutely we will!
