At least for now, I installed Raspbmc, XBMC for the Pi. Then install Plexbmc to access the Plex server. There are two skins optimized for Plexbmc, Quartz and Amber.
There’s a big performance enhancement using the aforementioned. Raspbmc can boot with a flash drive. The performance is way better with the flash drive than Rasplex and I can take advantage of fanart. Even with fanart performance is better than Rasplex.
Rasplex is probably headed in the direction of being able to utilize a flash drive for enhanced performance but when?
This project was making tremendous progress, but lately the dev's personal lives have gotten busy. Noting we can do but be patient. It's very close now. Just needs some of the wrinkles ironed out.
Thanks eug7 this is a nice alternative. My one drawback was a slightly complicated setup, but maybe it was just me <_< .
I really dont like the look and feel of the plex experience with raspbmc and plexbmc.
I would rather use RasPlex and live with the slugish menu’s

I agree, although I am tempted to go back for the DVBlink plugin. If only there was a similar plugin for RasPlex.
For now eagerly waiting a new release.

Try the Amber or Quartz skin. Much better then sticking with the Confluence. I think gaining the speed and stability is worth it. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before Rasplex comes to full potential.
My issue was that Rasplex was crashing my Windows PMS, not sure what with Rasplex was the culprit but I hope it might get fixed. ^_^

I have tested with both themes but the plex experience is not nearly as good
I have tried Plexbmc on Raspbmc and Openelec, the experience in nowhere near Rasplex. Going through menus on Plexbmc is not that much snappier compared to Rasplex. Its seems like the contact with server slows down the system also on Plexbmc. We obviously wish that Rasplex can become quicker, but video playback is flawless wich for me is the bottom line.
I agree with you on that. PlexBMC did have an edge over RasPlex earlier, for RasPlex before v0.1.35, but the latest versions of RasPlex are much faster (currently using v0.1.37). At present the only edge PlexBMC seems to have is when you set it to use pure text listings and compare that speed to RasPlex using its normal "Panel Stream" mode (or similar icon-based modes with other skins).I have tried Plexbmc on Raspbmc and Openelec, the experience in nowhere near Rasplex. Some such effect is inevitable for all remote software interaction. Its seems like the contact with server slows down the system also on Plexbmc.

That is the main thing, as long as the GUI is responsive enough to be useful. We obviously wish that Rasplex can become quicker, but video playback is flawless wich for me is the bottom line.
That responsiveness was dubious with the old versions, but IMO that's no longer the case.
While there's still room/need for improvement, the current speed is sufficient for satisfactory long-term use.

This is comparing apples and oranges.
RasPlex strives to be a complete port of PlexHT for raspberry pi.
PleXBMC is a plugin that adds the ability to interact with plex to existing XBMC setups.
PleXBMC is a great project, and we constantly benchmark ourselves against their work, and we need people to keep is accountable to ensure that we deliver an experience that is at least as good.
If you feel that raspbmc + PleXBMC is better than RasPlex, I encourage you to lodge your complaints.
The remarks about devs being busy lately is very true, however, we are gaining our momentum back. Our best days are still ahead of us.
Dale, no question in my experience that the flash drive makes a difference but there are also drawbacks with with Plexbmc. It’s kind of a wash. Since development stagnated on the Rasp I went ahead and picked up an Ouya. A lot more muscle with this box. You actually have FF and RW that zooms. The UI is a blown up phone app. From that standpoint the Rasp at least looks like real Plex. Some keyboard or remote functions don’t work. Pretty much Tied to the controller.
When I started this post in the back of my mind I was kinda hoping it would solicit some type of response from the devs. There is and should be justifiable pride in the accomplishments so far. The thing is, a feel a lot of momentum has been lost in the last couple of months and maybe some have moved on from Rasplex. By the time you buy a Raspberry, add a memory card and a case you’re only about $30 away from and Ouya or one of the Google TVs or an Android stick.

a quick search on this forum leads to that happening in March if not earlier
