Best external hard drive for Plex media

I running out of internal storage space on my media server computer (running Windows 10). I can’t add another internal hard drive so I either add an external drive or get a new computer. I don’t want to start from scratch, so the external is what i am looking at.

What is the best external hard drive to use with a Plex media server computer? Any tips I should keep in mind? I am hoping to avoid additional buffering of movies and TV shows that are stored on the external…

Just about any of the major manufacture’s drives will work well. I have several different ones in my pool including three of these:

One thing is be sure you turn off all power saving/sleep functionality so that the drive never sleeps at all.
