I have the 2016 imac with i7 processor and I need to know what is the best external hard drive to use with Plex so that I won’t get these buffering lost connection or saying my network is not fast enough.
I use two WD but i do not stream 4k mostly 1080p without issue. I do use Gigabit Ethernet as Wifi to the Tv is problematic my 2 ios devices work fine.
Steer clear of drives which are advertised as particularly power-efficient. These do often have custom firmwares which causes them to spin down their platters after only very short amounts of time of non-use.
This not only causes higher wear, but also causes longer waiting times until a requested file is delivered. In extreme cases, this can cause Plex to mark files as ‘unavailable’.
