"Best" HDHomeRun model for OTA/QAM?

It’s a potentially loaded question, but is there a better or worse model to choose if you wanted to purchase a new HDHomeRun device and use it with Plex DVR? I see the Connect and Extend models and the primary difference being the latter uses H.264 to encode.

For Plex DVR purposes, does this matter? Also, if anyone has experience, is there a material difference in build quality (e.g. fan noise, heat, or other issues)?

I have the original HDHomeRun already - the very first model ever released. I haven’t checked it yet to see if it works with the latest 1.50 release. Maybe I should start there…

Start with the model you have. New release came out last night: 1.5.2. I have the Connect model. I do transcoding after the recording is complete using mcebuddy. There are others on the forum I believe that have both models so perhaps they can comment on that aspect. From what I understand the Extend model is larger and does produce more heat since it is capable of doing the H.264 transcoding before sending to Plex.

Just a follow up - I am now using the original HD-Homerun for last few months for Live TV and some DVR. It works great for Live TV (though, not sure if you can watch two shows at once). The DVR is mostly good, but show sizes are huge. I need to figure out how to post process the recordings to shrink them down and index. It’s pretty hard to fast-forward right now.

I like the new quad tuner silicondust offers…the HDHomerun Connect Quadro. That way one strand of coax from my antenna goes right to the tuner, no signal loss due to spliters+multiple tuners.
