If I have a budget of $600-$800 or so and about 1.5TB of movies, what is the best NAS setup? I know a home computer server is probably better but i am not that savy with IT things so prefer an “out of the box” suggestion. I want something that is powerful yet reliable. I know there is a compatibility list but I also understand it’s a few months old on the newer models (ie Synology 718+.)
What does the community suggest?
I just replaced my self built Linux box running Plex for the Terra-Master F4. You can look it up on amazon. After getting the device setup and running it’s easy to install Plex. The only really complicated part I had was trying to copy my files from my Linux server over to the T-M F4. You do usually have to buy your own hard drives and it needs one of the better hard drives. If you do run into trouble you can have the TM team remote in and they’ll help you out. Hope that helps.
Thanks. I am not too familiar with Terra-Master. Amazon reviews seem ok but can’t really find much beyond Amazon… Thanks for the feedback though! Will look into it.
I’m using the WD PR4100, and like it a lot (for the most part). Plex and transcoding is fully supported. And I can not only have all my media on it but also use it as a home server for files, personal cloud, etc.
It plays back my bluray MKV files no problem.
That said it’s not super configurable and the WD UI/UX leaves a lot to be desired.
Hello Everyone.
I have been reading and viewing many YouTube videos to find the best NAS to run Plex Media Server.
I plan to share my media (Videos @ 1080p mostly) with twenty (20) to one hundred (100) family and friends. Maybe, I will consider 4K in the future, but not now.
Which NAS model do you guys recommend to handle the task stated above?
