I want to be able to use Plex in my home gym, mainly for music or watching things whilst exercising. What are the best options for this other than using a console like a PS4? I’ve tried setting up Plex on a Raspberry Pi 4 but it’s extremely sluggish and janky. I’ve tried setting up Plex through Kodi on a Raspberry Pi 4 but it frequently freezes, crashes or skips whilst watching media.
I have utterly no interest in things like ChromeCast, Firestick or Roku as I do not trust these companies and do not want to support them. Is sticking with a console my only option?
You haven’t specifically ruled out Apple TV or the multitude of Android TV boxes (e.g. a Nvidia Shield)?!
If none of those are fit for your purpose you could go with some kind of mini PC (maybe a NUC or something else slightly beefier than a RPi) to run PMP or Plex HTPC.
Personally I’m a big fan of the Apple TV client. Navigation is pretty smooth and there’s only few limitations.
