I suppose this is technically not something that is directly related to the Plex on the Shield but maybe there is enough associated knowledge available to the good people in here so here goes.
I’m experiencing the issued discussed in here [ Server disconnects - Screen goes black during playback - #48 by Leonberger1234 ] along other problems where my server just stops serving so I’ve finally decided to try and downgrade. I’ve never done it before so I want to back up the Plex stuff first as I really don’t want to lose anything from there.
I have the Plex data moved to one of the external usb drives that also host all my media. I found from the respective article that I need to safely copy this directory: /[removable drive name]/Android/data/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb/Plex Media Server/.
The problem is that doing so over a smb share I’m accessing the Shield drives from my windows pc. I have no idea how large the directory is and how many files are in there but it’s taking forever. I thought it’ll be faster if I can directly zip it on the Shield using something like X-Plore but it seems that’s not doable as the Android data directory doesn’t seem to be accessible any longer by external apps (it asks me to grant write access but when the explorer opens there is no such option or at least I can’t find it).
So, I’m looking for suggestions on what I can do to make the process faster, more reliable and generally - less painful. Is it possible?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Ultimately I had to remove the external storage from the Shield, connect it to the pc and backup that way. I was really hoping to be able to do it without having to do this as the Shield is set up in a somewhat remote and hard to get location but it is what it is.
