If I understand correctly, Apple has moved to HTTPS for the initial app load URL. Since they validate certificates, this means that even if PlexConnect intercepted HTTPS it couldn’t reply in a way that the ATV would accept. It might be game over for now
While the WSJ and Crunchyroll apps have moved over to https, Trailers is currently still using http. The beta 4 issue seems to be just that the Trailers app is broken in beta 4. It doesn't work at all regardless of weather you're using PlexConnect.
Weather Apple chooses to secure the Trailer app in the future is anybodys guess, however it wouldn't surprise me if they did :(
I've seen other app go secured as well. We have a localized VOD app in France and noticed it gone from xxx to secure.xx within the last two weeks and now calls for verisign checks.
However, in WSJ, as I was saying in an other post, it's only the first URL. It means that (although I haven't tested), we could catch any further requests at that point. But, then, they might secure it completely as well at another point.
I downgraded back to 5.3 and see trailers work when on its default settings (i.e. being able to watch trailers) but when I point this to the DNS of my mac mini running PlexConnect I just get the trailers unavailable. I have 2 x PMS on my LAN so even killed GDM and pathed it manually to 1 of them but still seeing this issue. Anyone else running into this trailer issue now even on 5.3 ?
Thanks WC
Don't know if anyone else noticed this but after the recent PlexConnect no longer working with 5.3 piece we've all been commenting on today, now Trailers is working in B4. Must have been part of this updated app/push and putting an end to PC for now.
