  • detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better): Plex Media Server seems to be all in working order, plexconnect also seems to be all in working order (upon viewing the terminal activity, it seems like it tries to intercept trailers on my atv when I click trailers). What I see on my apple tv is accessing trailers with loading icon, it does this for a while and then says Trailers is unavailable. Try again later. I have ensured the port for plex media server is on 32400 (when trying it on automatic, it will not connect to server, I have to set to manual and set port in order for it to connect).

I would also like to note that I have opened all ports on my router, and disabled my mac firewall. So it cannot be a firewall problem.

Try pulling the power cable from your ATV, leaving it unpowered for 10 seconds and then plugging it back it.

It might just be that your need to do this to flush the DNS cache.

Already tried this before you suggested it and it did not work, but I will try it again when I get my internet back next monday. Would it be a safe bet to flush the dns cache on my mac aswell, or any other ideas I can try?

Just to be certain your Plex Server is indeed working properly, are you able to view your Plex server and movies from another device duch as a smart phone, xbox, tablet or the like?

I don't really have another device to test it on. I do have the ps3 I guess but not sure if you can hook that up, I guess I will look it up when I get back home. Im in my parents atm, had to come here to pay my internet bills so I can get net back up and running at home. Soon as I get home I am gonna try unplugging everything waiting 10 seconds and plugging back in like you suggested, although I am positive I tried it already it won't hurt to try it 1 more time. If that fails, I will look into trying to get another device to connect to the plex media server, to confirm if it is an atv issue or not. ty for the suggestions man, im completely stumped as to how its not working lol.

You only need something with a web browser to check your PMS is working.

ok, I have tried unplugging and replugging atv3. That did nothing. I can confirm that plex media server is working on my ps3, I am streaming a video as we speak. Did not even require any network tweaks, jus pressed search for media server and a simple scan got it working straight off. So I assume the problem resides somewhere within plexconnect?

Try changing the following in settings.cfg:

enable_plexgdm = False

ip_dnsmaster = change this to your ISP’s DNS server (use google to find)

ip_pms = 192.168.0.3

If that does not work post another log please.

It did not work, I used my isp's primary dns

here is the log.

http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=6Qb4pUdG

Can you set the log level in settings/cfg to "High" and grab another log please.

If you go into the Plex web interface, show advanced settings, myplex, do you have the 'require authentication on local networks' box ticked?

Hi,

I'm having the same issue as Aaronp2k,

PlexConnect]
ip_pms = 192.168.1.254
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_webserver = 192.168.1.254
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = True
port_pms = 32400
port_webserver = 8090
ip_plexconnect = 0.0.0.0
ip_dnsmaster = 208.67.222.222
loglevel = High
logpath = .
enable_plexgdm = False

The DNS forwarding is working correctly as all the other net based options work, the ATV just doesn't want to see whats on the end of the Trailers option.

I'm running 5.3 build (6105)

Cheers for any help

>> port_webserver = 8090

Not the best idea... unless you know what you are doing.

>> enable_plexgdm = False

Why?

Any details on your setup?

Hi Baa,

Port 8080 as I've got NewzNAB running on port 80.

>>enable_plexgdm = False

Left over from when I tired out a suggestion from f00br4

Plex is running on Windows Server 2008R2 acting as a media server, I don't run IIS as I'm using XAMPP.

I should mention that I've got two ATV3's both of which get the same message, they are in different parts of the house (however they do use wireless to connect into the network).

Should also say that the server does not run a domain & DHCP/DNS is handled by a TP-Link router.

You need to use port 80 unless you setup a reverse proxy.

Excellent, thanks for your help f00b4r!

require authentication on local networks box is not ticked.

I did set log level to high I just double checked. I have done another log just in case anyhow with link below

PlexGDM detection seems to be working, because it detects my macs local ip. i have tried disabling and entering manually and that makes no difference.

http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=2RHnT5in

Just to clarify everything I have done. my atv ip is 192.168.0.2 and my mac ip is 192.168.0.4

therefore I assume the dns request source should be 192.168.0.2, and the dns response from 192.168.0.4 with other higher level responses from my isp's primary dns server (or secondary failing that). I have tried both dns servers and none seem to work, I have also tried putting my routers default gateway which someone suggested, but that failed. I have tried disabling gdm and having manual ip set, but I get the same results and gdm seems to detect the pms server anyway (i only have one running, so it must be). I have tried disabling bonjour, tried disabling DLNA, even tried adding my atv's ip to the exception list on pms settings even though authorization requirement was disabled anyway. I have ensured my port (32400) is forwarded correctly on my router, and I have ensured all plexconnect related material has exceptions in my mac firewall (even tried disabling my mac firewall). I am running on python 2.7.5 (in the mac terminal). I have also tried removing plexconnect and starting fresh many times.

Here is my latest logs

With GDM: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=WL80rr20

Without GDM: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=0ZFS8MKn

Here is my latest settings

[PlexConnect]
ip_pms = 192.168.0.4
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = True
port_pms = 32400
port_webserver = 80
ip_plexconnect = 0.0.0.0
ip_dnsmaster = 90.207.238.97
loglevel = High
logpath = .
enable_plexgdm = True

I experienced the same problem. When troubleshooting, I found that PlexConnect could properly route all requests to external sources (ie Youtube etc) but when trying to get it working with the local PMS, it simply couldn't do it. I then tried to turn off all the automatic server-detection and manually enter my local IP (instead of localhost/0.0.0.0). It turned out to solve the issues and now PlexConnect works like a charm!

In your case, the config file would be

[PlexConnect]
ip_pms = 192.168.0.4
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_webserver = 192.168.0.4
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = False
port_pms = 32400
port_webserver = 80
ip_plexconnect = 192.168.0.4
ip_dnsmaster = 90.207.238.97
loglevel = High
logpath = .
enable_plexgdm = False

I just tried that and its still not working, I have also tried flushing dns cache on my mac and then unplugging power on apple tv for 10 seconds, still no difference. The funny thing is it looks as if plexconnect is working, because as soon as I click trailers I get the following in terminal:

17:58:14 DNSServer: DNS request received!

where it says forward dns request, should another line follow after that before it says DNS request received?

if possible could you post a working log up here for me to take a look at, so I know what should be happening in the terminal when it is working. that way I may be able to figure out whats wrong.
