It’s been a while since I started using Plex, and finally I’m organizing my music files.
But I’m struggling a lot, to say the least.
In my head, it should be easier to understand the metadata of the files.
My music are all organized as follows:
Artist / Albums
Singles
Demos
Promos
EPs
Bootlegs
and so on, and all tagged properly.
It should be easier to FIX what we see on the music page, and I suggest the ability to do the same as in the movies, where we are able to insert the EDITION (like using {edition-EXTENDED} or {edition-DIRECTOR’S CUT}).
Exemple:
Under the main tag page from Plex, we could have a section called: Format (or something like this), where we are able to put that particular music on:
So it can be shown in the right place instead of the albums.
Lot’s of my singles/eps/bootlegs are inserted into the album part of Plex library because they aren’t in musicbrainz (where it seems Plex gets its data from), and it seems much harder to insert what we have on musicbrainz and then hope that Plex understands it.
It would be nice to have the option to do it directly into Plex.
As for the 2nd and 3rd part of your suggestion:
There’s already an existing suggestions discussing those features. Please comment/vote in those threads to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
Thanks for the options to vote, I couldn’t find in a brief search, I hope both of them goes through implementation.
As for the folders, if you have a few albums, it’s easy to stay with the plex suggestion, but when you handle artists with over 50 releases (albums, singles, EPs, etc) it’s very difficulty to find yourself in the middle of tons of folders. Imagine handling the Pearl Jam live albums for example, in the same folder as their studio recordings, it would be so bad.
I’m working on trying to compile all the “same” singles of an artist in only one “album” and see if it works somehow for now, but it’s not the best scenario.
