Better Playlists

I bought Emby, time to say goodbye to Plex. They were good but have lost proper focus and this playlist ordeal is just one aspect of this being so.

Thanks PLEX, for another year of not being able to share my Christmas Movie/Music playlists with my family and friends.

I would ask that playlists are treated like subsets of media library. Ex: I want to put all my kids movies into a play list and when I share my plex library to my kids account, I share just that way I don’t have to worry they will get into media that is not for them.

Yep. I’ve been using Emby since my previous post and I’m delighted with it. I was never able to simply hand the Plex phone app over to my wife and have her use it without having something to explain to her. The Emby app is a breeze and the server runs flawlessly.

Be sure to check out the “Instant Mix” feature by pressing and holding on a song. It’s very clever and akin to an instant playlist based on the song you selected (a bit like Apple’s Genius mix).

Again, not to rag on the Plex team or the Plex product in general. I just think they’ve opted to go in a direction that doesn’t suit some small home users like myself.

Honestly, I’m not really interested in hearing about your Emby experience. You are going off topic.

It’s almost 2020 @Plex the users have been asking for this since 2016, if not sooner. We demand that you add this functionality before any of the unwanted features you continue to add; I mean, show me one request from a Plex user asking for you to piggyback an ad-supported “free” streaming platform on top of their server? Oh wait, you mean there is none, and you only did this to further line your pockets?

“get your sht together. Get it all together. And put it in a backpack. All your sht. So it’s together.”

Sounds like you need to learn some tact when dealing with paying customers. This kind of response is not fair, and really, pretty gross. We just want to be acknowledged.

Yes, Would be a great feature

Voted for this. However I would like to add that I don’t really need a better playlist and just want the sharing options so friends and family can still play my lists without constantly needing to log them off and on their devices just because I’m visiting. This is particularly useful for music for me and not so much for video.

Other than that the only feature I really miss is a function to export playlists containing music to an m3u or pls file. Optionally with support for rewriting the base directory of the library to something specified during the export. So we are talking about creating a traditional playlist for devices that don’t support Plex wtih the same library present but not always stored in the exact same directory. Beyond this the only other thing that could come in handy would be an option to set up a basic file type transformation in case the library was present, but for instance in mp3 format.

I just tried copying a dynamic playlist with Webtools. Curious to see if that actually works, sadly the person on the receiving end is unavailable at the moment.

Ahh… another holiday season is upon us and I still can’t share or make a featured playlist with users or have it show up on my users home screen.

Hacky-Tip: Move a few movies files out of Plex folder and sync library. Move files back to Plex and they will show up in recently added. (;¬_¬)

Another Plex Pass user here.

This is a feature I just cannot believe it hasn’t been implemented yet.

Also, it cannot be replaced by “collections” - I want to be able to put albums and single tracks together, “collections” differentiate between them.

I wasn’t replying to you, so feel free to ignore my Emby comments.

Enjoy waiting for Plex to deliver what you’re after. I got tired of waiting.

Honestly, I’m interested in hearing about his emby experience. It is after-all turning out to be a better product.

Then I would suggest that you contact him directly via private message because that is not what this topic is for.

@ColonelBarney Elan did mention in another post that they would like to bring this feature to Plex. But yea, it’s been a long time, so if you can’t wait, Emby is a really good option. I just installed Emby a few weeks ago and I’m impressed with the fact that not only can I share playlists, but I can also share my m3u playlists, which I’ve aggressively held onto, because they’re the only true universal/platform agnostic playlist I’m aware of. Plus, I can use playlists over DLNA.

However, Emby can’t play 4k on Xbox One. And photo libraries are seriously lacking, but other than that it matches up pretty well.

PM me if you have questions.

This request was from 2014 and it’s still not in?
