why this setting is still not included in the latest versions of Plex ???
because plex hates us I guess. Really hoping this gets added soon still
Don’t hold your breath as this has been on the request list for years.
Oh yeah, I know lol. I’m gonna have to decide on whether I buy a lifetime pass or pay monthly soon and this request is making it hard for me to want to get lifetime. Plex seems pretty great besides it’s quirks but it seems to have a lot of them
7 years??? Come on, Plex. You can add stupid garbage that nobody asked for, but when it comes to the most common, the most basic of requests (share a playlist), something I would actually expect to see where playlists are involved?? Nope, not even gonna do it.
As a Plex Pass member, this is something that kills me. Ignoring requests like this is just ridiculous
it’s been out for quite a while. Single Item Shares | Plex Support

Does this work with PlexAmp, yet? I shared a number of music playlists with a family member at their request but there is no “Shared” section in the PlexAmp menu on the iPhone app (iOS 14.6). As such, none of the shared playlists can be accessed.
How do I allow my home managed users the ability to share media items? Only the Administrative user profile has the ability to do this.
wow… you finally implemented sync …
but since it took you so long, i was expecting something not so 1990s… share playlist was a thing in 2014, when i started this topic - and everyone would’ve been happy back then … 7 years later i’d expect the whole catalogue of features for playlists, just like i was requesting. like actual BETTER playlists at all.
- where is the ability to import a trakt playlist ?
- or sync a trakt playlist, so i can finally have some sort of “trending” or “popular” view inside plex, without having to use “plex-meta-manager” ??
- why can’t multiple users edit a playlist?
- why is the view so completely bad? and why not take the normal view?
- how to filter playlists, like in the normal view?
guys… playlists are still completely messed up
look at the last posts here … nobody is happy … nobody says thanks… because in the meantime it went from “nice to have” to “why the hell isn’t it - it’s freaking 2021” … and the same goes for the whole playlist-system
For those wanting to sync Playlists with Trakt/IMDb:
Plex-Meta-Manager is a pain in the a** to use (until WebUI, if you ask me), but lets you do a lot of stuff Plex is missing.
This way you can sync any Trakt/Imdb-Lists (like Popular/Trending, or your own Playlists) with Plex (Collections).
Thank you for sharing it is exactly what i need!
Agree. I want to be able to allow my wife to access any of the playlists that I created under my account since Im the tech person and she is not so … but I have playlists that are just for HER to listen to but if she is under her login she cant play them which sucks to have to do all that work in her side as well. and then keep it updated as you add stuff.
not good
pleased advise how HOME USERS can share playlists?
thanks
When talking about playlists, the features people wants differ if we are talking about VIDEO vs MUSIC playlists. My comment is specifically about VIDEO/MOVIE playlists.
I am tech savvy and have no problem filtering my searches for movies by genre, sorting by rating, etc. The people that I am sharing my library with are not tech savvy. For these reasons, I’ve created several Collections - which are all tediously and manually created / maintained labors of love.
Then I discovered advanced playlists and got excited about it. Some examples of playlists I created include the following:
- Movies from each decade (1950s, 1960s, etc.)
- Animated Movies playlist
- Combined genre playlist (for example, combining THRILLER and HORROR)
What is GREAT about smart/advanced movie playlists is, unlike collections, they are automatically maintained as your library grows. I add a 1995 Thriller movie to my library, and it is automatically added to my 1990s playlist and my Thriller/Horror playlist. Wow! Cool!
Then I realized there is no easy button to share Movie playlists - bummer. So my friends have no way of benefiting.
So my ask is getting one of the following two features:
(1) Let me share video playlists with my friends, and let the PLAYLISTS menu pop up automatically next to LIBRARY and COLLECTIONS like it does on MY Plex interface.
OR
(2 - and probably the better ask) - Provide an advanced / smart query (similar to playlists) to create collections that maintain themselves when your video library grows. Boom! Very cool and functional feature - and it doesn’t mess with the Playlists at all.

You can share your playlists with friends although you would have to use a script like Plex Meta Manager or JBOS

this is already a thing using the same filters as smart playlists go here and scroll to the Creating a Smart Collection section

This feature alone isn’t good enough. A set of users listening to a music library want to each make their own playlists and share them with each other: “Check out these songs!”, etc.
I, as the admin, can make a playlist, and share it with someone else via this “single share” feature, yes. But no one else can. Any other non-admin users have no way of sharing a playlist with anyone. No one can share with me, only I can share with them.
still, almost everything from my #1 post is missing
with 1400 votes … guys… overhaul playlists …
Seems Plex is ignoring Playlists.
In the last 12 months I have moved Plex from several Windows PC’s, Linux and currently Unraid Docker. Getting tired of remaking my music playlists as there should be a simple quick & uncomplicated export/import option and not some instructions about copying appdata then cross your fingers and hope it works.
I would like to see an option in the music side to create custom playlist
