BeyondTV Recordings Not Recognized By Plex

Hi,

I’m not sure what category this is supposed to be in, a moderator can feel free to move it.

1st off, Plex is awesome but not recognizing the shows too well.

I’m using Snapstream BeyondTV and have been since 2004 or so. I recently purchased the Plex pass so I can use plex on my phones and tablets. The problem is with the shows. Here is my process for getting shows to Plex.

Record with Beyond TV.

Use MCE Buddy to rip the shows down to something that Plex is happier with which also cuts commercials. The new plex versions of the shows go into a folder where plex can then scan that folder and pop up the shows. Sometimes it works, but it usually doesn’t. I found the problem to be how the shows are named, unfortunately, unless I manually change the names, I can’t get BeyondTV to come up with a different name format. Here is an example of a name produced by BeyondTV.

Since Plex doesn’t know what to do with it, this show will not turn up in my library until I rename it with something like FileBot.

As your file names don’t comply with the Plex naming conventions, that’s to be expected. You’ll need to continue using FileBot or similar tools to name your files so that Plex can identify them.

And to furher expand upon @MacGriogair excellent answer, maybe you could try and incorporate the AMC function of Filebot. To make it more automatic and less of “another manual step which makes it tedious” as I percieve your question stems from.

Ok thanks. I guess I was hoping plex could be a little better at recognizing the shows. One thi g I see I should do right away is change the TV shows folder to “TV Shows”. Automating filebot can be a little scary as it renamed a bunch of my shows wrong already. I’ll do some more fine tuning, eventually dialing it in.
