Black screen after short period - please advice...

Hi all,
I have got some troubles getting RasPlex to work.

A couple of days ago I first saw infos about the RasPlex project and was very amazed and directly ordered a Raspberry Pi from Amazon (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B008PT4GGC/ref=oh_details_o05_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to get my not very smart 42LG6000 in my bedroom to work with Plex.

In my living room I've got a Synology Nas with Plex Media Server Version 0.9.7.28 (Plex/Web Version 1.2.22) connected to my Samsung TV. It works great nearly a year now.

But the troubles came faster than I thought.
First I used the Official RasPlex Installer for Windows and flashed the 0.3.1 image to a 16GB SD card from my digital Camera (level 10).
Then I plugged the HDMI, Ethernet and power cable (Micro USB Charger from a Mobile, 4.75V, 0.55A).
RasPlex booted up, showed me the install wizard and first I did not know how to use it without Remote :) The Pley app on my mobile did not find the Rasplex so I pulled the power cable and connected a USB keyboard.
Now I switched the Simplink in the LG menu to on to get the LG remote work (would be great to have that in the description; it needed several boot processes before I recognized the CEC information...;o)).

The Problem:
After I entered the settings I saw the Plex-Folders served by my Server. But after 1-2 Minutes, the Screen went black. oO
That happens now everytime I want to us RasPlex. Sometimes after 1 Minute (in the boot process), sometimes after I was able to configure the newly imaged SD - but I never was able to start a movie - I was able to browse, saw the movie icons but thats all. The screen wents black to fast.

Several times I smashed the image when powering the Raspberry of (I assume). After powering it off I got the following message within the next boot (within all SD cards):
***Error in mount_storage: mount_common: Could not mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 ***
*** Starting debugging shell... type exit to quit ###
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
#

The only thing helped was to put a fresh image back on the SD card.

The LEDs so far (while I'm writing, ~30 minutes):
Orange: on
Green: blinks (normal frequency)
Green: on
Red: on
Green: blinks (mad frequency)

What I have done so far:
- I used 2 more SD cards (one level 4 (micro with adapter), one level 10)
- I used 0.3.1, 9.9.1.5 and rasplex-crashissues.img.gz, same as above - the screen wents black after an erratic amount of time, but never more than 3 minutes...
- I surely put images new on the cards for 15 times now
- I changed the HDMI cable
- I used at least 4 different power supplies. The first one is really weak - I did not think about it, but I raised the power more and more. The last try was with the 5V, 2A from the Galaxy S4 - but with no success at all :(

What else can I try. I would really really appreciate to get this to work...:'(

Sounds like a CEC issue with your TV or you have a bad pi. Can you test it with another TV.

Thank you for your answer.

Yes, would be the best. I'm on it, but at the moment there is only the red LED on :(

Ok, I was able to play 10 minutes in the menus. only 25% icons showed up...

I tried to start a 1080p movie and the system crashed.

Now I'm waiting again to get that thing to boot, it shows a red LED ;)

Have to go to bed, will continue testing tomorrow...

You might not want to start with a 1080p movie... the synology box has a very small CPU as does the rasplex... depending on how the video is encoded you might be overloading the system try to transcode.  I would start with a lower resolution file.

I would load the standard debian wheezy version on a spare SD card and have it boot a desktop... see if the display works... if you had a second pi and a second TV (which it does not sound like you do) I would also just swap one of those at a time...

Finally, there is a dim screen function after the plex app sits idol for 30 60 or 90 seconds... only thing that changes after a given time period.  you can change this in the plex preferences...

Ok, good to know. I thought that might be equal for Ethernet.

But unfortunately the Raspberry does not show another LED than the red one. Seems that it died yesterday :(

Thank you dale.

I'll report this - my Raspberry seems to work on a different TV.

Again to you and the dev team: greatwork!

Merry Christmas!

Ok, I was busy now for some days but just installed the 9.9.18 and It looks even better *fingerscrossed*

Did not touch anything, neither keyboard nor remote control, just entered the pin to plex... processing is @ 27%

The error "mount_common: Could not mount /dev/xxx" appeared even before; @ first try today I plugged in a wlan stick which detected my network - but seemed to be in a loop, I could not enter the password. So I switched the Raspberry off and got this error.

After reinstalling it worked again - without wlan but ethernet cable...

Doesn't work, keeps craching :(
