As a long time Windows Media Center and Plex user, i’m very interested in the Plex DVR and Live TV functionality. This would mean I can finally use Plex for everything, which is great as Microsoft no longer support Windows Media Center.
I’m using a BlackGold BGT3650 Quad DVB-T2 tuner on Windows Media Center, as expected this doesn’t appear to be recognised by Plex.
I’m wondering if their is any chance this tuner would ever be supported by Plex? From what i remember tuners that were supported by Windows Media Center had to adhere to a certain driver model, so i’m guessing it might be quite easy to support any tuner that has Windows Media Center support?
I realise this tuner is not manufactured anymore, however it still one of the few DVB-T2 Quad tuners released here in the UK, so I imagine it’s quite popular among home theater enthusiasts who like myself might be looking to switch to a supported platform.
Since it’s not sold anymore, the likely of us officially supporting it is slim, but working on a opening support with a ‘known to work’ model to add support for older devices our users can test.
If anyone else has this tuner, please post here. When we start working this out (which might not be for a few releases) we can let you guys know.
The known to work model sounds promising, if you need any beta testers in the future, or more info i’d be happy to volunteer.
I was lucky enough to participate in a Windows Media Center beta back in the Windows XP / Vista days, so have experience with completing bug reports and what’s expected of a tester.
I would like to participate in this as I have some - not to old - tuners that I think should work if the OS has a functional driver. I’ve got the WinTV-HVR-950Q, previous to the supported 955q (even uses same driver for Windows), an AVerMedia A188 HD Duet Dual ATSC PCI-E TV Tuner and several Hauppauge WinTV PCIe x1 HVR-1250 Low Profile TV Tuner Cards. All which have working drivers in Windows 7 and 10 - would be great to see them and many more supported in the very near future.
I’ve been Windows Media Center for years until recently. Been Plex user for awhile now and it’s great, the add of DVR and Live TV put the nail in the coffin for WMC (for me, even though MS did that a while ago not including in Win10) but I need to get a working environment before I can completely cut it off. Was really hoping for expanded tuner support so I can make it happen.
I have a blackgold dual dvb pci tuner and would be interested in plex dvr being able to use this.
