Block some plex folders to users withing the same network

I just bought my kids a new tv. i was suprised when they had access to my synology plex server without having to enter any password or anything. they can see now all my movie folders including all my horror and war movies. they are 3 and 4 years old and i want them to have only acces to disney movies. but i cant seem to find out how to deny access to certain folders.

Would appreciate any help.

You can create “managed users” for them (or even just one). That will let you control what they can see – you can assign libraries generally, apply a restriction profile or manually restrict what they’re allowed/forbidden to see.

Thank you for your quick answer. the problem is that i never logged in to the tv. the tv just saw my synology server on is own. never assigned any profile or users to have acces to my server.

I thought i had everything secured. but clearly not.

Are you experiencing this through the Plex app on your TV or did you by chance enable the DLNA server of your PMS and see your libraries through the TV’s native “videos” or DLNA app?

Otherwise you might only see your local server in a local client if they’re indeed both not linked to a Plex Account – given you’re using a Plex Pass I suppose that’s unlikely (or you wouldn’t be able to use those Plex Pass features with your server)

In addition to DLNA, check Settings → Network → List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth.

If the TV’s IP address or subnet is listed, then it can see all your media without having to login.

Thank you both for the asnwer. but like enclosed picture, nobody is listed as allowed without auth. and DLNA is turned off
and yes, they can see my server without the plex application. but i dont have te media server application running on my synology. And without this DLNA shouldnt work on synology.

AFAIR Synology brings its own DLNA server by default i.e. it will work even if Plex server is not installed onto the NAS at all.

Shutdown Plex Media Server on the Synology.

Can the TV still see/play the media files?

Not entirely by default but pretty standard. It’s a package called “Media Center” and it controls the DLNA functions and is good guess for the situation:

@User_Unknown see if you have Media Server in your Application Panel (the menu in upper left). The Synology default for this is “broadcast it all” particularly if you ever setup Video Station (or DS Video); to be fair that’s the point of DLNA really. If you used the same media folders for Plex as for Video Station those folders will be DLNA navigable folders. Plex highly advises against using the Synology media folders with Plex.

Edit: Synology’s KB for Media Center … just for more references
