Hi all, hope all is well. I bought plex recently and really love it. I have it on both phone and tablet and the media server on my desktop which sources and streams a lot of movies.
The problem i have is, I categorize my plex server into “Movies”, “Cartoon”, “Animation” etc. but somehow my kids can still watch whatever inside the “Movies” folder, which has some 18+ content. They use my ipad (to play on itself or stream to TV) so they are on the same account i have.
Just wondering if there is any way to set the password to “Movies” folder, or any way to deal with my situation above? I just want to setup some folder that only me or my wife can access. Thanks a lot.
You might want to take a look at „Plex Home“. This is a Plex Pass feature that’ll allow you to create managed accounts for family members and individually control what each of them can see. They’ll still be using your account but each of them will have their own pin (so will you as the admin) https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/features/plex-home/
So i have a follow up question, my friends share me his Movies folder, but it looks like only the admin under the home can view it, am i able to share that folder with anyone else in the home?
No, you won’t be able to “re-share” the content that was shared with you.
The owner of the server would need to share with your kids directly (which would require them having “real” plex.tv accounts, instead of being managed users).
But then you wouldn’t be able to restrict them from watching unsuitable content…
