BLURAY

I asked this in the user forums but realized it might be more appropriate in this forum.

Can someone help me understand the situation with Plex and Blu-Ray support…

I am wanting to know what to expect and when, but:

. It is my current understanding that Plex is using the ffmpeg library

for most (if not all) video codecs and embedded streams.

. The ffmpeg developers are primarily responsible for such things as:

  • Blu-Ray directory structure (BDMV) support (i.e., like VIDEO_TS is to DVD)
  • Blu-Ray embedded subtitle decoding
  • Blu-Ray menu navigation
  • Blu-Ray HD Audio

If the above statements are true, then whatever progress is made

on these tasks will not be driven by Plex development, but by the

    ffmpeg group, right?

I ask because I don’t want to post requests for such things here if

“here” is not the right place to ask.

    Thanks for any insight!

That’s correct, I think most of the blu-Ray reading capabilities will come from the ffmpeg group… Subtitles and file structure might not come from there though.

Does that mean subtitles and file structure will come from the Plex group?

They are the two main features which don't currently work and are the most important to me.
That is, one can currently play the .m2ts file (the main movie), but it does not play
without specifying it directly (it does not play when you dlick on the directory) and
subtitles do not display.

Menus are less of a priority, imho...
