This is definitely a good feature. I wouldnt really use it for movies but I would all the time for audiobooks. So it would be best if this feature was available on mobile or plexamp. There are many times where I need to remember the steps or details of something. But it’s buried somewhere in those 16 30min chapters. Tagging or notes would fix everything. I would just put a tag each time the book said something profound or important that I want to utilize. Btw. The solution listed above of chopping the file into pieces would take hours and isn’t a good solution for audiobooks. And I can’t google “when does x book say y” even if I remembered exactly what y was.
You still working on this? It would be great. But I would use it more for audio.
This would also be a great stepping stone to adding official chapters to movies.
Something that other interfaces have by now.
-Apple Itunes Movies added this a few years ago
-Kalidescape has always had it and is essentially what every other diy movie server has been mimicking since it came out.
I would also love this feature. I have some videos that I often want to re-watch certain sections of. It’s a pain having to skip through to the right bits each time.
I would love to have this feature
Especially for my favorite comedy scenes to re-watch over and over again. An overview of all bookmarked scenes would be great, too.
I would love to use this feature to bookmark my favorite scenes. Kodi has this feature. Will be great if Plex can add it.
I had mentioned how this feature is a must for me when it comes to audiobooks in another feature request post. The Prologue iOS app (made for Plex) can already do this, you can simply save a timed bookmark and leave a note on your audiobooks.
Just last night as I was watching a movie on my iPad, I instinctively paused to add a bookmark in the middle only to realize that I’m not in Prologue lol. This seems like a fairly simple feature to add and has many use-cases for movies and shows but especially documentaries so I can go back and do some research based on those bookmarks. There are many other great use-cases that are maybe more advanced that people have mentioned above, like the ability to create custom playlists that will play specific moments that you bookmark in different movies etc. But maybe we can just start with simple timed bookmarks attached to each media file metadata locally and then grow from there.
Also. the addition of this feature could potentially move us closer to official Audiobook support on Plex… Maybe?
Another vote for this
+1 for this! Kaleidescape has this feature and I believe Zappiti and Zidoo do as well. It would be great to be able to bookmark scenes, chapters, etc. and build playlists for various purposes. One use case, particularly for home theater, would be to build a demo playlist for when you are demoing your theater to guests.
It seems like this has been consolidated from over 10 other request threads so clearly the demand is there. Let’s go!
This would be a great addition. Especially for training videos. But also to mark a range like a movie clip. I usually cut clips from videos. But having a bookmark and a range-bookmark would be great and save me lots of time.
Bumping this thread because I want this feature too, for this purpose.
I watch Plex every night and keep it running while I sleep. I want to bookmark the point in the episode where I took off my glasses and rolled over, so the next day I can start from there.
And for sleepy spouses everywhere!
Agreed! Would like to bookmark specific parts of the video for later revisit. The seeker bar is a pain!
This request is so old!! Has it received any attention from Plex??? If not this is ridiculous…
+1 for this! It’s a very popular feature of Kaleidescape to bookmark scenes in a video and create collections of scenes across multiple titles. Would love to see this available via Plex!
Any updates on this?
I worked on a video creation platform startup back in 2014 and this was one of the most requested features by our clients and we implemented a simple yet robust solution in about a month.
I store a lot of lectures on my server and would be great to easily and quickly add a mark/pin and a simple label so it’s easy to return.
A lot of other video platforms have been supporting this functionality for a long time now. What’s taking Plex so long? They could at least address the request!
The good news is that we agree that this would be awesome, the bad news is that we have internal roadmaps going out a ways with other higher priority work. I do have a sense that it has potential for us to built out down the line, and we have definitely discussed it, but unfortunately it isn’t a near term development target. ![]()
Hello McWanke, could you please tell us if bookmarks are going to be implemented in spite of not knowing the date?
you probably won’t like this answer, but the truth is that I don’t know. Until we start working on the project itself and work through the technical challenges and define what our solutions and how the feature will work I won’t even have a firm definition for us to talk against here. I certainly have ideas, as I am sure you do as well, but until we write the spec and establish definitions it is too soon to know.
Hello, I appreciate you honest response, please keeps us updated if anything happens regarding this topic, I do really appreciate the app and the work you do, that’s why I purchased a plex pass, best regards
Here to bump this feature request once again after so many years. It seems like such a simple feature to develop but would bring me so much joy. I am a home theatre buff, always tweaking my setup. I also regularly audition my setup for friends and family. I would love to have the feature to, like watch lists, collections, playlists, etc. save bookmarks. These would just be linked the Plex video but instead of starting from the beginning of the video, start at a predefined time HH:MM:SS. (Even better if you could have it start/stop based on an in and and out) Plex should allow multiple bookmarks for each video. This would allow me to quickly and easily jump into my favorite movie scenes with ease. Imagine I could showcase 20-30 top movie experiences quickly and easily while seeing the changes to my home theatre setup or when a friend comes over. Today, I do this by using a collection of movies that have reference/demo scenes but then I need to start from the beginning and fast forward/rewind to find the specific scene I want to showcase.
Please PLEX! This platform is a home theatre nuts most valuable component, but this simple bookmarking feature would bring me so much joy!
