Everyone who hates the new app needs to Cancel their plex pass and post here about the reasons you hate it and how we’re forced to use this broken ugly app.
They obviously don’t care about the silent one who liked it and enjoyed it and worked for them until this crap. The only way to make them fix it is to hurt their pockets and be heard in masses.
I won’t be surprised if they close or delete this at all.
They broke the 4k transcoding so much it stuttered and crashed before 2m mark older version played 60.8mbps no problem. Can’t play my movies then wtf is the point in paying for it and using it?
The GUI is eh I’m easy about this. It’s ok but eh I really love the old app better. I’m about functionality instead of aesthetics. It needs to work 100% before you go and make something look “pretty”. I am not saying this new version is pretty but you get my point.
I can’t cancel a Plex Pass because I’ve been patiently waiting for a point where I take a step back, breath a sigh of contentment and say “ok, it’s all working brilliantly, I can rest easy now”. I still can’t do that.
My protest will be to pay a month sub on an alternate product and really test it.
I’m a tight ■■■■ when it comes to spending money on software, I will usually try and find open source options rather than pay, so for me to be signing up for even a single month elsewhere to pay for the temporary privilege of an Xbox Home Theatre app when the Plex Xbox One client is free means, for me, that I’ve run patience levels down to zero. And bear in mind I paid for the Plex app on many mobile device accounts for family, and honestly I would have paid 4-5x as much for each individual app if that’s what the price had been, because at one point Plex was the best platform for seamless at home own-media sharing. Hell, if I felt I wasn’t plagued by issues with client apps, hamstrung by virtual always-online requirements, I’d be one of those willing to pay for PMS itself, let alone the clients.
Truth is that if the alternative is no better then I may persist/struggle with Plex for a while, but if I need to go back to using a fixed media server ala Kodi, I’ll investigate how to tie that to clients in the household to provide the functions required. Cest la vie.
@jungwirth - any suggestions on an alternative app?
I frankly got fed up with it last night and watched my Plex server content through the XB1 Media Player (crappy but at least not as craptacular as Plex is now…) - Whoever designed the new UI has never put a controller in their hands - EVER
I find it ironic that the first line on their new ‘ad’ for the new XB1 app on the Plex site says - “Forget scrolling through your entire media collection trying to decide what to play next.” Yet, that is EXACTLY what they are forcing us to do now!!!???
At this juncture, I’d be inclined to pay for an app that worked from anywhere… Heck if I had too, I’d even pay to use the old version of the Plex app at this point.
This app is soooooo bad! To take away voice commands and tell us there is a new API… but we are just not using it yet is trash! Soooo glitchy and slow! Lets hear about how you (PLEX) will fix voice commands, make them better, and give us back the legacy app we all deserve!

My search started here, admittedly a few weeks ago: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/289684/move-to-emby-is-completed-report/p1 I have reservations however it’s where I’ll start seriously looking. After that it might be Kodi with plugins/other apps to get it streaming to devices in home (iOS, Android, XB1). If none of that works, I guess I don’t know. I loved XBMC back when that’s all it was. I had a tiny openelec linux box sitting with XBMC running as a HTPC box near the TV, then I discovered Plex which was amazing in that it allowed me to run a single server and have 4 people in the house watching different things simultaneously on different devices. That was back when it was all local-content-centric. The goal posts have shifted and I no longer have that feeling of awe when Plex ‘just works’.
FWIW I really don’t care about sharing libraries externally or using Plex as a hub for other media (streamed through, channels, dvr, live tv etc) - I just need it for local content played locally. So my alternatives can be rather simple. Plex just gave the awesome XBMC interface across multiple devices.
