Very HAPPY with the Xbox One App

Hardly much joy when you look at this forum, and it saddens me somewhat, for all those that have worked hard and are still working on it.

Regardless who started talking about developing it, and who ended up developing it. It's here, and we can use it, and well, it's f&*^ing great.

Ive been using plex for years, its part of the reason I switched from a PC to a Mac and never looked back.As soon as Plex Pass came out I didn't hesitate to pay for a lifetime,  I've bought pretty much every device plex could be played on, from the Raspberry Pi,Chromecast, Roku,Fire Tv, Apple TV, and its even the reason I bought a Samsung TV and here we are today, its on my favourite console in the front room, and I can talk to it.

Using the app since launch, and I'm loving it, its played everything that I have had to offer it. Its snaps, it resumes, and well it really awesome. If your not a fan with your voice, go and get the media remote, its not expensive, and even illuminates in the dark. Yes, there is a few little bugs here and there,Yes it looks a bit different to the other apps, but it looks like an xbox app.

To all those that are having problems, hang in there, you will fix them and if you can't,like every other version of plex server and plex player, thats on every other great device, the devs will fix it, or the community will help fix them with some great constructive feedback. They always do,it's always around the corner, and it's early days for a great future on Xbox ahead.

So on behalf of everyone thats been having a great time with the app, we thank you in plex developer land for all your work, and your continued work.

Wanted to post the same thing under that "disappointed" thread.

I've used Plex for years as well.  I've run the client on a home built linux box, jailbroken Apple TV, Chromecast, Apple TV with airplay, Fire TV, Sony TV DNLA player, etc.  I've never been really happy with any of these solutions because they were not very friendly to guests that would come over and they just never felt very integrated with the rest of my TV setup.

The day the Plex app was released on Xbox One I went out and bought one (after saying I was only going to own a PS4 this generation).  I couldn't be happier with the setup.  Now I have one box that has a consistent interface for Plex, streaming TV, and broadcast TV.

Sure there are things that could be better in the app, but I was surprised how well this first effort works.  Kudos to the Plex team I think they've done a fantastic job with it.

I agree with the sentiment of this post even though I actually haven't used an Xbox app yet (still waiting on the 360 version).  But I'm already excited because not only will it be very useful for me now, but I'm excited about what it may imply about the future.  I don't know if anyone in these forums is tracking this like me, but Steam Boxes are right around the corner and I definitely plan on getting one.  I am desperately hoping that Plex will release a version built to be used for these consoles.  Theoretically they already have Plex on Linux (Steam Boxes use Linux), but now they also have an interface designed to be used with a controller!  Combine the two and I'll be very very happy :) .  But in any case, good job on the Xbox apps, they look great in screenshots and I applaud your efforts to get your app onto more and more devices.

I tried out a lot of software before settling on Plex. I had even considered trying to write my own (which would never have even approached Plex's capabilities) because it just seemed like nobody understood that what we basically wanted was a private Netflix that is easy to manage. But then I found Plex and it's an absolute joy to use. They're one of the earliest third parties to release an Xbox One app, and have gone above and beyond to do an Xbox 360 app, which I think was totally unprecedented. Let's also not forget that they were one of the first apps to support Chromecast.

No, Plex isn't for everyone. It's for people that are really passionate about managing their media. But I think the Plex team should take a moment to pat themselves on the back and think about all the joy they're bringing to their user's screens.

I am very happy with the app. I can now move all of my media viewing on 2 of my tvs to xbox one: sports, movies, and shows.

Good work to the developers

It's great for my needs. There are some features missing that I like but they'll get their eventually.

I love the fact that I don't have to switch to another piece of hardware to use plex. Just launch it while watching TV and bam....away we go.

It has a little ways to go before it can replace rasplex running on my raspberry (24p, dts, more subtitles options) but it's off to a great start. I suspect it will improve significantly once the media update hits general availability.

Good Job!

My Mac mini sits alone doing all the work while my Xbox takes credit for it.

I’m happy as all get out!

It's a really awesome first version! But to replace my PlexHT HTPC it needs to solve three things:
1. More Direct Play, less transcoding (should be ok once MS release the october update to the public).

2. 24p support.

3. Plex remote support.

I´m also verry Happy, let the time go on, some fixes there and there it will be better and better !!!!

It´s on a verry high Level for the first time on xbox one !

MS Media Player PREVIEW vs. PLEX = PLEX is LIGHTYEARS before MS !

Imagine what can PMS do with all that horsepower of XboxOne!

I know MS will never allow that but why not ask

Agreed.... for the first release this app is already the best one to date.  I know the bugs will get addressed with future updates and look forward to more of those plex features to be added in.

I'm loving it too. It helps that I'm in the xbox preview program with added codec support.

I believe that after the October release goes live, that 90% of the problems people have with transcoding will go away.

After the latest PMS release I am also very happy!

The App looks great and got a nice overview about my medias and some good recommendations for unseen movies.

And with my Logitech Smart Harmony I can use the Xbox One as a nice client without to grab the controllers (which is not very home Cinema-like ;)).

Thanks to the whole Plex team for the whole experience!

Same for me!

For the first time I am considering removing my media center PC and move completely to XboxOne + Plex.

fantastic release from the team!

I agree.  I now have my TV running into the back of the Xbox One and my Movies available through Plex.  I even eliminated my A/V Receiver from the setup as the Xbox was the only thing running into it now!

Went from:

Xbox One(Games), TV Box, HTPC(PLEX) all hooked into my A/V Receiver and having to switch inputs.

To:

TV Box hooked into my Xbox One(Games/Plex) (no input switching!)

Pretty awesome and hats off to the Developers (and Microsoft if they facilitated the creation of this app at all)!

I basically have the same setup, except I kept the receiver because I wanted to keep my surround sound :D

All things considered, this is a very good preview release.  Some people, just assume that by paying for Plex Pass, they are paying for the product, and that it will work flawlessly.  They don't read the release notes, and choose to ignore known limitations.  Are there issues with the app ? Yes. Are there limitations, and features missing ? Yes.  At least we get the privilege to test it in our environments and contribute to the evolution of the app into something that everybody can enjoy.

I have never been more satisfied with a company's product more than I am with Plex.  I've had my share of frustrating issues, but I've always been provided with a solution, even when it takes more time than I would like. The community is incredibly friendly and useful.  The sense of entitlement shown by some people around here is disheartening.

My two cents.

So you contribute 2 cents and you think you get to say whatever you want.  Typical.

Been really impressed with it. Works great and looks great.

Hoping that they can't get it up to date feature-wise with the other clients pretty quickly, didn't like the warnings about how long updates may take.

Well done all involved, great job (so far).
