I just installed Plex on my Windows 10 box. Added a couple of relatively small video libraries on an external hard drive. All video files are in MKV containers. Both libraries are giving me the “There was an unexpected error loading this library” error.
I’ve read a number of forum posts complaining about this error, and none had anything helpful to offer. This is a brand new installation - I’m not going to jump through hoops to fix database corruption or any of the other remedies suggested in the forum. I did delete the libraries and recreated them with no success.
Given the number of forum posts about this, it seems to be a common problem, and there doesn’t seem to be a solution. If I’m wrong, please let me know what I can do differently. I already use Serviio and UMS and will happily continue to do so, but I wanted to see what Plex could do differently/better.
After adding (a lot of) media, the database is usually in need of optimization.
Try that first, but only after you are sure that Plex has actually finished fetching metadata and analysing the files.
Ok, the files finally showed up. The libraries aren’t huge so it took longer than I would have expected, but happy now that it’s working.
Initially, files weren’t showing up on my DLNA clients either (WDTV and Panasonic Blu-Ray). I had to restart PMS but now DLNA streaming is working well.
It took me a little while to figure out the transcoding behaviour, My receiver can handle Dolby Digital and DTS, but not Dolby Digital Plus nor AAC. The WDTV STB has an option to configure HDMI passthrough to match the capabilities of the receiver. Once I figured that out DLNA streaming from PMS is pretty transparent.
Checked updates, reboot Plex, reboot entire machine and still nothing.
I had this happen to another TV series, not sure what happened but it fixed itself, this one in particular was download/added around the same time and still can’t get it to work.
EDIT
Just to check, it did work on the original machine through Plex. Tried my laptop on the same network and getting this Unexpected Error when trying to watch an episode or even go to the show page.
