Hello,
Do you guys think that Color control (Brightness, Contrast, Hue and Saturation) inside Plex might be useful?
I usually like to tweak those depending on the movies or tv shows I watch and would love the ability to do that in Plex.
Should I add a ticket for this?
Cheers
If your TV is calibrated correctly you should not have to do this from movie to movie. What kind of files are you working with where you need to change settings so much?
yeah, ideally your TV should be calibrated correctly and the settings should just be left there… You can pay someone to do it or get a DVD that walks you through it.
I concur that picture settings should be done at the display level not the source.
I am one of the few, I suppose, who is watching his material on his macbook and not on an external screen.
I primarily watch tv shows, .mkv to be precise.
I usually have different color settings depending on the movie or tv show I’m watching ( i.e. cooler and darker colors for crime and thriller movies/shows).
I suspect plex will attach the functions for the brightness and contrast controls eventually. Maybe a color control as well.
I do agree that having the display calibrated is important, however colour controls inside PLEX are a must for me. The reason is not so much to compensate for the TV itself although that does become an issue with my rear projection as it has limited brightness controls and it does darken over time as the bulb gets old. The reason this is useful is the way some people rip DVD’s. I have a huge collection or DIVx and other movie types, a lot of which I ripped from my DVD’s when I was young. I was ignorant of video encoding then and many of them are are quite dark. Having a well calibrated display does not solve this issue. Adjusting the brightness etc. inside the media player will make the videos watchable.
I know I could re-rip these DVD’s but I don’t have the time and a simple adjustment on the player is a good easy solution and very usefull.
I here the same thing said about audio all the time and it general comes from hard core audio geeks (I would class my self as one). Saying that you should use no sort of equalization on a hi-fi is just crazy to me. Every room, speaker and source sounds different and although it is best to avoid using such things sometimes you do need to compensate and adjust for individual tracks or equipment. I know this is off topic but it is the same principle.
My point is calibrate for the majority at the output (display) and compensate for the minority at the source. There is no point watching something that is dark or badly contrasted just because you know your TV is calibrated correctly.
OSX's built in color, contrast, and gamma calibration is already better then available anywhere. Just calibrate the display in System Preferences.....
The biggest issue with plex is DVR and calibrations.
10BIT files look awful on the platform and its a shame since this is such a basic setting to include in every media management system / player. I hope that a ticket could be opened since it is truly needed.
