Adding my vote to this. Was completely baffled when I read the announcement. I thought the UI refresh of PMP and more frequent builds indicated they had come to understand the value of the flagship client.
Say what you want about the usage analytics/statistics, but I have a feeling a less-than-insignificant number of users will abandon Plex as a result of the lack of a quality HTPC client…and take with them all the secondary/tertiary clients with them. For me, that’d mean my family/friends, most of whom use streaming media players. There’s not a chance they will end up setting up their own PMS, so they will also simply abandon the platform if I go. In this case (and I’m sure others) 1 HTPC client = 7-10 streaming devices.
I can’t be alone in thinking this is a huge miss on the Plex team’s part. This decision just seems 3-4 years too soon. The streaming clients aren’t there yet to appeal to home theater audiophiles.
