Bring back Plex Mix or something that does the same thing, please

Hi Plex developers, please bring back the Plex Mix feature for music. For people who may be unaware of Plex Mix (or maybe can correct me?) - Plex Mix was a nifty feature which could analyze your music library and create a playlist based off a song your were playing. It was was F****ing awesome! But, the feature seems to have been disregarded in favor of substitute subscription options, such as Tidal.
I have tens of thousands of songs and albums I have collected over the years and the Plex Mix helped me discover and re-discover music I love in my own collection. I appreciate the option for integrated online media sources, but those services increasingly detract from the purpose to use Plex, acquire your own content, and save money.
I completely understand that the reasons for removing Plex Mix were complicated, and that is fine, but PMS development road-map of supporting third-party subscription services will encourage Plex users to explore content options that are incentivized to poach those same users from Plex.

I’ve had a Plex account for several years, but am just now actually organizing my digital data and using Plex and I love it. I’m sorry to have missed the Plex Mix era. It sounds exactly like something I would be interested in. I don’t subscribe to online music subscription services not because of the money issue but because I have a large enough collection for me that satisfies my interests and I am not necessarily interested in having new music suggested to me. I, too, would like to re-discover those lesser known tracks and albums.
All that being said, I’ve been reading different threads about the three radio stations Plex offers - Library, Time Travel and Album, each with their own pros and cons.
On a personal note, I love getting movie and tv recommendations, but I don’t necessarily like getting music recommendations. So the fact that Plex uses last.fm’s ratings in building the Library Radio Station, gives those tracks too much weight for me when creating that playlist.
Would it not be possible for Plex to create the option to create your own randomized playlist based on your own specified criteria from your music collection (song, genre, year, artist, your rating, etc.) and not the default playlists they have offered?

If you install Plexamp, you get a ton of these more. Including a Mix Builder.

Plex is already taking your own “star” ratings into account when building those radios.

And then there are the custom filters, which can be used to build self-updating playlists. [HowTo] Create Playlists

Thanks, Otto! I’ll look into Plex Amp.
If Plex Amp has the features I am looking for and has more flexibility than Stations, why are other users not using it as a solution for their needs? What am I missing between the two?

Maybe because Plexamp is Plex Pass-exclusive.

Hmmm… that makes sense. I have a Plex Pass, too. I guess I just have to dive in and figure out how all this works together. Thanks.

seems universal… Apple music also got rid of Genius mixes… and spotify is just… ugh. Worst money I ever spent on a service. +1 for plex mix. just play more of the same kind from my own library… maybe give some suggestions what else to buy to get more?
link to bandcamp for example.

just an update:
Plexamp now runs in my car, on my mobile, my work (Windows) PC and on my Linux PC
also: The “Plex Mix” button is most often found under “Artist” - and it works like a charm

Except when you encounter a snowflake… can someone fill me in on the story here? obviously nerdbait here but I love stories

Anyway. Have fun and keep re-inventing.

When I posted this topic, I did not know that Plex Amp existed. I have since tried Plex Amp and enjoy it, but I wish it was baked into PMS or at least Plex clients, rather than being a separate app. Perhaps Plex Amp is best as an independent app to work in various environments, but I am confused about your snowflake comment. The story behind Plex Mix seems to be that Plex had background service that powered the Plex Mix for a short period. Apparently, the Plex developers had to rapidly cut ties with that service and they provided relatively limited reasoning for eliminating the service.

wh yes. So plexamp requires a plex pass so there is that… but besides that this is what I wanted so I can ditch spotify again. Which is what I wanted.

Apple used to have a “genius” feature which is what I want back.
Spotify tried to copy it (artist radio) but it is severely broken.
What I tried out in plexamp works very well. Very few mistakes/things that make me skip a track so far.

now… the snowflake,
please don’t interpret too much into it - the screenshot is from plexamp and I am taking this very lightly.
A snowflake is unique and fragile and will be gone in an instant. Also it can make you happy.
And many snowflakes make a nice blanket of snow.

So the snowflake as an analogy to the uniqueness of the track vs. an error message that reads “no matching tracks found” - the characters are cantonese for snowflake, according to wikipedia

I also found other hidden things in plexamp like wabi-sabi and … but there should be a thread about them, somewhere. have a great day
