One option that appears in Plex but not in Plexamp is the ability to go to Track, Albums or Artists and just Shuffle Play All. Some days I’m not sure what I want to listen to and since Plex has my music I just want to be able to have it start playing my tracks shuffled until I know what hits my fancy for the day. Using Repeat and Shuffle would be great additions.
I believe this is the “Library Mix” unless I am mistaken
PS: Great FZ choices, I def have both of those in my Library
We’ll look to add play/shuffle options there, but for now just make a “All Music” smart playlist w/o criteria. This has the extra advantage of showing up in e.g. Recent Plays.
Using playlists is workable for now (this is also a workaround on older FCA’s uconnect systems for anyone with those) but I also couldn’t find " Add Smart Playlists" or “Add Playlists” option under All Albums, All Songs or All Artists. Did you mean to create the music playlist in PLEX first and then access it from Plexamp or am I not looking in the right place?
Can’t help to wonder, wouldn’t shuffle/shuffle all & repeat/repeat/all be one of the main features when designing a music app?
Fantastic app otherwise both on Mac and iOS.
You use the web app https://app.plex.tv
switch to your music library
make sure to disable all filters
click on add to playlist icon
‘create smart playlist’
then without adding any filters, click on “Save As…”
Hey there, i missing a Shuffle function too. I recomend to implent it in the Player itself so we can Shffle even the Playliste already playing. And what i’d like to have is a Repeat Button. Maybe a general Setup in the Settings or in the Player itself?
The most practical way (I know of workarounds…not ideal) to get Sweet Fades on i(pad)OS is with PlexAmp but no shuffle is a killer. Shuffle makes the feature shine!
use mix builder, you automatically get shuffled tracks.
or make an always shuffled smart play list
I’m dumbfounded on how you design a music player without a Shuffle button and still not available in version 3!?. Its as basic as copy and paste. How was recently played considered a higher priority?
I really want to dump Apple’s “Music” app and replace with Plexamp, however, the lack of being able to Shuffle my downloaded music is super frustrating. Am I missing something here? I would love to have several larger smart playlists downloaded (playback when no internet avail), but don’t always want to listen to the music in the same order. Any suggestions?
You can shuffle downloaded playlists by tapping/clicking on the 3 dot menu and selecting shuffle.
You can also get a library shuffle by creating an all music smart playlist and then shuffling it.
I knew I was missing something! Really Appreciate! Deleting the Apple “Music” app as I type!
hurray!
ha ha!
looking forward to deleting my Apple Music as well, but cannot find a solution for shuffle by album
I want to grab a playlist or genre and pick a random album and play that entire album in sequence from beginning to end. For lovers of Classical, Opera, Progressive Rock / Metal or Concept albums in general this is a crucial feature.
Any clues?? Help!
there’s random album radio that plays across all albums in your library. holding down the
button skips to the next album.
Yes!! Love that feature!
Hoping to have it added to a genre, artist or playlist
cheers!
OMG! How did I not know this?? The things you learn…
PLEASE add a shuffle button If you can add a repeat button to the left of the play it can’t be hard to add the shuffle to the right of the play button!
I have done this process and created an “All Music” playlist (PlexAmp on Android):
*Use the web app https://app.plex.tv
*switch to your music library
*make sure to disable all filters
*click on add to playlist icon
*‘create smart playlist’
*then without adding any filters, click on “Save As…”
The problem is that I keep hearing the same half dozen artists and have even heard repeating songs. I have a lot of artists/songs that haven’t even played (>600 artists, >11,000 songs). I wonder how the shuffle/random algorithm works…
Sometimes I get 6 or 7 tracks out of 10 that are the same artist. I wonder if an algorithm could first randomly choose one track from each artist (and after those tracks are played do it again and/or re-select from the artists/tracks set again). This would potentially mix a library fairly well. I realize that there are many ways to “shuffle” and randomize depending on the desired result. Thanks for listening.
