Posted here back in Sep 2019 re. Buffer issues. Still having this problem and I don’t know what to do anymore:
MY SETUP (all apps / firmwares are up to date)
- Western Digital My Passport Wireless Pro (WD) (acting as my media server)
- LG OLED LG OLED55E6P
- Plex TV app
- Native “Photo and Video” LG TV app
- Internet connection is 295.31 mb/s download and 15.69 mb/s upload speed
- On local network
- Plex Media Server is Wireless / Wifi connected
- LG TV is Wireless / Wifi connected
- On Plex App, Local set to: Original Quality / Direct Play: ON / Direct Stream: ON
- I do not transcode
PROBLEMS

Streaming a 4K HDR (HDR10 + Dolby Vision) MKV film from my WD server to the Plex app on the LG TV gives me buffering throughout the film to the point where I have to stop watching it.

Streaming a 4K HDR (HDR10 + Dolby Vision) MKV film from my WD server to the Native “Photo and Video” LG app gives me the error: “Unable to play. This file cannot be recognized. Return to content list.”
TROUBLESHOOTING

If I remove the Dolby Vision video file (using MKVToolNix-35.0.0) and play the film with basic AC3 audio, the buffering issue improved drastically, but it’s still there.

If I remove the Dolby Vision video file (using MKVToolNix-35.0.0), I still get the LG error when trying to play in the “Photo and Video” app.
NOTE
Some 4K HDR (HDR10 + Dolby Vision) MKV films will work without issue using the Plex and the Native “Photo and Video” LG app, which is VERY strange.
