Buffering Issue for Certain Devices

Server Version#: DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 2
Player Version#: 4.0.1

I have a problem with certain videos buffering. All my movies load perfectly fine on Plex, but all my tv shows buffer a lot for some reason. There’s no difference in quality (usually 1080p) and I have direct play and direct stream both enabled.

One weird thing is that all my content plays fine on the Plex app on my phone, so this buffering problem only persists when I’m using the Web app on my laptop. There’s no difference in wifi connection and my laptop isn’t outdated or anything.

For reference, I’m using a Synology DS118. I don’t think its transcoding anything given direct play/stream are both on so I dont know if that has something to do with the buffering. Any help will be much appreciated.

What browser are you using to view content on your laptop? Any plugins or anything? If so, maybe disable all of them or use an incognito mode (chrome) to test out streaming. Make sure all is up to date.

Also, do those files contain PGS / VOBSUB (image based) subtitles ?

Those will kill any Synology NAS in a blink because of the computational requirements.

I needed to replace my Synology boxes with a QNAP (a big one) to have the horsepower needed)
