Buffering issues with Plex Windows desktop app

Hi there,

I’m having an issue with certain media buffering on the Plex desktop app on my PC. My friend runs his own PC with the Plex Media Server app.

While attempting to stream a show or movie on my PC, my network usage on task manager only goes up to 3mbps/4mbps. It doesn’t go past that resulting in the media I watch buffering and pausing a lot. It’s hardwired too.

While attempting to stream a show or movie on my laptop, my network usage on task manager is around 20mbps/30mbps. I can stream most of the media he adds just fine. Even 4K media. But for some reason my PC struggles a lot.

My download speed when using the browser and other apps to download large files is around the same speed as it is when streaming on my laptop. Around 10-30mbps. So I don’t know why Plex is somehow being bottle-necked.

I’ve already tried changing both settings listed in this forum post to no avail. So any other help would be heavily appreciated.

After several months of having this issue, I’ve finally fixed it.

To anyone that may be experiencing anything similar. Go to Settings > Quality > Show Advanced > Then find Debug on the left

Disable both “Direct Play” and “Direct Stream” and save changes. After that, re-enable them and save changes again.

It’s beyond me as to how disabling and re-enabling both of these fixed the app from only using a constant 4mbps of network usage. But now it’s fixed. Hope this helps someone else.
