BUG: AAC 5.1 Audio cutting out randomly

On the Plex app for Fire TV (2nd Gen) if I have the option Settings -> Audio -> Dolby Digital (AC3) enabled, AAC 5.1 audio will cut out randomly. Some times as frequently as every few seconds. When I disable that setting, I believe it is transcoding the audio but it no longer cuts out. Attaching logs with the setting enabled and then disabled for comparison.

Audo information from plex:
Codec AAC
Channels 5.1
Duration 21:56
Profile lc
Sampling Rate 48000 Hz

I too am having this exact same issue (Amazon FireTV and Ubuntu - Plex server Version 1.4.3.3433) and bzfoster’s fix indeed stopped the sound from cutting out randomly.

Man, we’ve been reporting this same bug for over a year. I really really REALLY wish we could get anything back from the developers on this.

There are two major bugs that have been around for ages: 5.1 AC3 stuttering and the “plays whatever it wants” bug. If these two things were fixed the AFTV would be a basically bug-free platform for plex.

It really seams like they’ve abandoned the AFTV platform to focus solely on AndroidTV fixes.

Please Plex Developers, help us out here. Take a break from tweaking AndroidTV and address these critical bugs in the AFTV platform.

Not too hijack the thread, but your title is not related to any specific Player client

With that in mind, the client I am using exhibits the same issues (no audio in my case
)with any AC3 file, specifically 5.1 encoded versions.

Here is a typical Mediainfo breakout:

As far as the specific client, it is a ‘Generic’ android box, but more specifically the ‘newer’ A95x NexBox:

From a review of the unit, Kodi has no issues with PCM output, but Plex does, based on my real world useage.

With these factors in mind, it truly does appear that Plex has issues with AC3 playback across a myriad of devices. With the Media Decision engine deciding what needs to be transcoded (to what format
) based on the client profile, it must be a Plex ‘thing’ since the files direct play capable
 right?

Here’s a thread old enough to start drawing social security:

May even be the same issue.

(are you starting to get a feel for what’s making the rest of us a little irritable?)

I have the same issue and it has been driving me nuts figuring out. Thank you for the work around.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if this ever got fixed. How do we get Plex to acknowledge this?

having the same problem with 4k Remux movies (files larger than 45gb) only happens on my samsung tv. LG tv does not have the sound problem but instead will buffer every few minutes (on the same video)

Same here, FireTV 4k and PlexPass audio suttering random on multichannel (Intel NUC i3 8th gen as plex server).
Really annoying.
