I’m not getting any audio for some videos with 5.1 AC3 tracks. The Plex app says it’s direct playing, but there’s no sound. If I convert the video I get sound.
On the Android TV app I don’t see anywhere to disable direct play. Is there some way I can disable direct play so I can at least get sound? I still don’t understand why there’s no sound though. Is it a bug?
I’m not getting audio on Android Mobile either for 5.1 AC3 tracks. Audio doesn’t seem to work for any track that shows “unknown 5.1” rather than “English 5.1”. I’d like to force transcoding, but there’s no option to do that.
Audio works fine in Emby. Plex, can you please fix this issue?
I just went through this also.
there are a only a few thing you can do and neither are very good.
If your android box is like mine the only real 100% fix was to root the box and edit a Plex file to disable AC3.
In my case i could get it to work on my box by turning on HDMI Pass through in Plex and then in android sound setting chose manual and select ac3 and aac only. This would get me sound in Plex but after i ran kodi and switched back to plex sound was gone again. I had to either force close Plex and restart or go back to android sound and switch from manual to auto and then back to manual. This was a Pain in the ass.
So i have disabled AC3 by editing like so

needs to be modified

Wow, that is crazy. How long has this been going on? I haven’t used Plex in awhile, but I’ve started using it again and I can’t believe that there’s an issue like this preventing any sound for a common audio track.
Can a Plex employee please respond? We really need this fixed.
It’s been going on for years.
Some reports that on some devices you can uninstall plex and then reinstall it. On first run going into mobile setting audio and disable AC3 and DTS.
Then when you switch to TV mode they are disabled as you can no-longer get back to those setting once in TV mode. That’s when you need root access to edit the file.

Hi there, I have the same problems with films from my Dreambox on my NAS.
Plex on my Samsung TV works fine but Plex on my Android phone and Plex on my Nvidia Sield dont play sound.
I also pay for Plex and I would highly appreciate if this would be fixed soon.
I just install the latest slimbox rom on my x96max plus2 android tv box.
Sound worked on everything except in Plex when trying to play live TV from my HD Homerun tuners.
I could play Live TV from the HD Homerun app or Kodi no problem.
I could play any file in Plex no problem it was only when the HDHR tuner was sending AC3 to Plex that i had no sound. I tried every setting in Plex client and Android sound settings but could not get sound for Live TV in Plex.
Then i rooted and edited the plex file as posted above and it worked fine. I did not want to root this device but had no other choice. Once rooted some other apps will not install anymore. Oh well.
