Bug: Clearing a recent search performs a search

Player Version#: 4.128.1

After launching the Plex Web desktop client and clicking in the search field I see a list of recent searches if I’ve performed searches in the past. So far, so good:

Now if I want to clear one or more recent searches, I would expect that clicking on the “X” icon to the far right of each recent search menu item would remove that entry from the recent search menu, similar to how clicking on the “X” icon in a populated search field clears the current search field contents.

Instead, what happens is that clicking on a recent search “X” icon performs a search, which is what I don’t want. I end up seeing the search results instead, rather than the modified list of recent searches:

…this makes clearing recent searches a very time-consuming and frustrating task.

I would suggest a few things:

  1. After clicking on a recent search “X” icon, display the recent searches menu without the item that was just removed. If there are no more recent searches, hide the recent searches menu.
  2. Make a client option to enable recent searches or not. Seeing that menu appear every time one wants to search can be distracting and superfluous for some users.
  3. Add a menu item or other control to the recent searches menu that allows one to clear all of the recent searches with one click. Over time it becomes much easier and faster to simply type in a new search rather than scan a long menu of recent searches.
