BUG: Everytime I switch to TV mode and then back, my 'Internet streaming' is reset to 2Mbps 720p

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: latest

I set ‘Internet streaming’ to maximum, then I go to TV mode, come back to PC mode and see that 'Internet streaming has been reset to 720p 2Mbps, even though all quality settings are set to Maximum in TV mode.

P.S. I don’t see any simple way to check the version of PMP player.

I can duplicate this.

Server Version 1.14.1.5488
Player Version 3.77.2

The home screen media types in TV mode also reset back to show and include.

Resolved for me.

Seeing the same sort of behavior as Tiebierius. Using player version 3.83.1 and server 1.14.1.5488.

  1. Go into TV mode
  2. Disable some home screen media types
  3. Leave TV mode
  4. Go back into TV mode and the home screen media types are now showing all again.

I have on pms, video quality set at maximum as well as home streaming. It doens’t stay. The setting reverts back to 2mbps 720p.
When I play a video on either roku or android tv, it defaults to 240 x 480. I reset (on android) with the gear and it plays alright at 4 mbps 720p or some programs 12 mbps1280p (wired connection) I have subtitles enabled so direct play is not possible. Still no matter how often I reset the pms quality, when I play something on androidtv or roku, it defaults to crap. Interestingly, playing the same thing on the server is good quality! Everything is capable. It just forces me to change settings at the remote player every time.

@pechka, @pl_5309 and @ae_zero that issue should be resolved in the latest PMP update (2.30.1). Please let me know if you’re still seeing issues with settings being reset after switching between modes.

@edwoody You issue seems to be different. Have you also set the desired video quality on the Roku/Android TV app settings? From your description it seems that you may have those set to a lower quality on the app itself, forcing video to play at a lower quality. Please see the following article (settings on Android TV should be similar to those on Roku): https://support.plex.tv/articles/204275243-settings-plex-for-roku/

Hi pcalves,

Well, The Roku is good! It’s my wife’s tv and I tried it this morning and the Roku displays High Resolution.

Which makes me think it’s the player. Android TV, now that’s a different beast altogether. Still have to manually change resolution. Android still defaults to 270 x 480. (with subtitles) if that matters. I’ve read subtitles and direct play don’t’ get along.

I did get a Plex server update yesterday. Android is watchable, just annoying to have to switch resolution every time I watch a recording. thanks

Well, This may be in the wrong place. I see where it’s a known issure in Plex Players section Android TV, Xaomi Mi Box. Which explains why Roku is ok, Xaomi Mi Box isn’t.

Hey @pcalves,

I’m still seeing the same behavior.

To recap:

  • I start PMP
  • Press F11 to switch to TV mode and pick a user (I’m using my admin user)
  • Go into settings > Home Screen Media Types > Disable a few items
  • Go back to the home screen and verify the media types are gone
  • Click the button at the top to exit TV mode
  • Press F11 and pick the user again
  • The media types are back

Hi @ae_zero. Thank you for the detailed recap, I was able to reproduce this issue by following your steps. I’ve opened an internal ticket so we can further investigate it.

Hi @pcalves. Just checking in on this one. I can see that the behavior is still there.

Thanks!

Hi, yes this behavior is the same for me as well.
Thanks

Same bug here. Very annoying. Especially since I need to go into TV mode to change my audio output settings. I have a few old movies with mono AC3, and when they play with passthrough, there is no sound. So I need to go into TV mode, settings and disable passthrough. And when I go back to computer mode, the video quality has reset to 2mbps again.

Please fix, and also make all settings visible in both modes, it is crazy that you need to go into TV mode to access more advanced settings.

Looks like the latest PMP update completely changed the interface, making this thread moot.

Huh? Mine is still the same, Version 3.104.1 says up to date.
At least Computer interface is unchanged. TV mode seems to have changed. But this bug is still in computer mode.

PMP Win10 version 3.104.1
The setting still reverts back to 2mbps 720p after switching back to PC Mode from TV Mode.
I noticed it also changes the Multi-Channel Audio Boost to None.

Can we get a fix for this issue already?

I hate using TV Mode, but its the only mode that offers “zooming” in. When using an ultrawide monitor this is absolutely necessary otherwise you have black bars on all 4 sides!
