When searching for a track specific genre (using the search in the web interface at the very top), the search field will provide a suggestion that matches the track genre, but once the suggestion is clicked, no tracks appear.
This seems to be an issue with how Plex is not able to handle track specific genres (yet the suggestion field does pick up the track genre, as the track itself does have that specific genre applied).
Ok, you are searching for the genre itself. Yes, that should work. But the results will show you artists, not tracks.
Your second image shows blank because it couldn’t find any artists with that genre. PMS caches genre information. You likely removed or changed the tag for the artist that had that genre previously, but now it’s not there so you get no results.
I figured it out. The “YTHymns” genre is applied on the album level. But the results show artist level genre. So what Plex should do (if it gives the suggestion) is when the suggestion is clicked, it should show album level genre results.
Related to this, are there any plans to bring track genre into plex?
It would make it much easier to organize the library and create playlists with tags that are already there. One strange issue that is happening is that when a (m4a) track is imported for the first time and it has a genre applied, Plex will set that genre as the album genre. However, if a track is added, with an author that is already in the system, and that same album (“unknown”) does not have an album genre, the track genre will not be read… Simply having track genre will make things much easier (especially with creating smart playlists).
