Music tracks (MP3) were imported with no genre, please help me identify

I have set up a premium music library, but several of my tracks apparently were imported with no genre. I have the library set to “Use embedded tags” and to not get genres from Gracenote. These MP3 tracks should have the genre tagged properly (confirmed in several programs including Windows Explorer). I would be happy to send a problematic file if someone wants to take a look.

I just happened to stumble on 1 that is missing a genre, but I need help identifying the other files so I can add the Genres manually in Plex. Is there a way to do an advanced search in Plex for tracks with no genre? Thanks.

Tracks don’t have a genre within Plex.
Only Albums and Artists have a genre.

OK, but they must get the album genre from the tracks initially. Is there a way then to search for albums with no genre?

Right now I don’t know a way within Plex.
But I will lobby the developer of Plex2CSV to make this information available in a future version.

And I’d also like one of these tracks for inspection. Please do also include the Plex XML info how the track appears now within your library.

Also I need the platform and software version of your Plex server.

I sent you a PM. Thanks.

Everything is looking normally with your file.
I see you are running on Windows, so we can exclude any trouble from non-ascii characters in your file and folder names.

Please tell the order of the lines under
Settings - Server - Agents - Albums - Plex Premium Music

Is ‘Local Media Assets’ at the top position?
If not, move it to the top. This is needed, if you want the embedded meta tags in your files to be the definitive source. They will override any other data from metadata sources below.

Then perform the Plex Dance with the album (with music, you can omit step 4).

Sorry, I forgot to give the extra information. I am running Windows 10 with Plex server DVR Beta 3.

Local Media Assets (Albums) is already at the top for Plex Premium Music

When did you import the album?
Did you do it with your current server software version or was it earlier?

I imported all music in the DVR Beta server version.

I just used the sqlitebrowser program to identify the albums with missing genres and it turns out there are only 17 so I can fix this manually without too much effort.

It turns out that this model of genres only being assigned to albums instead of each track is a little problematic for me. I have several movie “soundtracks” that have a variety of tracks on them that I assigned to different genres within the same album. I will now get some unwanted tracks in Plex when I create a smart playlist for a given genre since all the tracks in the album are considered to belong to each genre of the album.

I hear ya. I am already lobbying to have this model changed. So far unsuccessful. :frowning:
