When reading the metadata of flac files, the album artist will not be related to the genre unless an mp3 file is read in with the same album artist and corresponding genre.
My settings are chosen to only use metadata of the files and not to use any of the rubbish data from an internet source. This misbehavior in this or a slightly different form had been filed years before and can be found in a number of forum threads. This is clearly a bug and I hope this new Forum post will lead to a fix.
To be a little more clear:
When I have a folder for my artist and in there some subfolders of albums with perfectly tagged flac files, plex reads in all files and displays the music nicely. If I sort by album, I can sort by genre, too. If I however sort by artist, I can not sort by genre any more. Plex does only connect the genre to the album but not to the album artist. Funnily, when reading in mp3-files both connections are there genre-to-album and genre-to-artist. Even more funnily, when reading in subfolders with flac files and one single mp3-file with the same album artist, album and genre, the genre-to artist connection is also recogized for the flac files.
I assume, that going through the code for reading in mp3-files and going through the code for reading in flac-files should quickly give a hint, what is missing, when flac files are read. Either the album artist connection to the genre was forgotten or is not working.
This is a hard to find misbehavior. There must be a lot of irritated users who can not pin point directly on to what is wrong, but experience missing information every here and then.
On the one hand, I feel, that this is a big thing for the wanted high quality of plex that is stated on your web pages. On the other hand, I learned about the “Plex Dance” when working through the forum posts. This dance is a horrible bug and much worse than this one but was not going to be fixed for years. I stay curious how far you guys will go for your expectations of your software.
Thanks for your time.
