See attached. The only way to remove it is to force stop the Plex app.
how are you closing the app? is the thing playing or minimized before you close it. If you hit pause on that notification can you swipe it away then?
I’m closing the app by closing it, don’t understand the question.
It’s neither playing or minimized when I close it. I was using the chromecast, I disconnected Plex from chromecast, when it asked would you like to continue playback on this device I hit no, then I closed the app.
Yes, hitting pause allowed me to clear it. Ty for that
I have this notification that keeps coming back.
Seems to be related to playing media on chromecast.
I can swipe away the notification but a while later it pops up again.
It show me the play symbol and not pause and I can swipe it away and close it.
Really annoying that it keeps coming back!
Hey there!
I’m also experiencing this issue. I’m on a Galaxy Note20 Ultra, and when using Plex I get the media controls up top.
However, I can never swipe the notifications away. I have to reboot the phone to get rid of them. I also notice that the notifications stack up, I’ve had as many as 5 sets of media controls, all for Plex.
Please fix this - it’s doing my head in!
Same here. Galaxy S21. Found this post as well but replies were auto-disabled (Now playing notification stuck - #29 by warwolf7_hotmail_com). Is it just from Samsung devices?
And to further explain, I streamed a movie from my phone last week for the kiddos. It played to the end with plex in the background on the phone while I WFH’d. When it finished, the notification was still there. I started another movie (having to reconnect to stream to the TV) and it showed as Now Playing on my swipe-down menu on my phone as well, but no there were two little dots under it. When I swipe to the side, there is the first movie as well. I was somehow able to get it to stay away (multiple force closes and a bunch of other stuff?) so I was hoping it was solved. Now, a week later, I start up plex to stream some music to the TV and the notification is back (expected WHILE I am playing something, sure) but the two dots and FIRST MOVIE from a week ago is still showing when I swipe sideways. What gives?? Even after we left and came back home, the notification persists. When I click on it, it asks me to choose a user and then says “Playback failed for the selected item”. When I press and hold, it shows Remove/Settings/Cancel. If I click Remove, nothing happens. If I click settings and turn off Notifications for Plex, the banner on the swipe down stays just the way it was. Hitting Cancel, just cancels the Press/Hold action. If it stays up for much longer, I will try rebooting to see what it does?
Thanks for the detailed explanation. I experienced the same thing but with a s20+.
Whenever I try to Swipe the notification to get the “cog” icon, the notification does not swip away, it swipes to another plex notification bubble and I can’t get the the settings like the usual apps.
I’m my case, I couldn’t find anything to get rid of the notification except reboot
Just adding my +1 to the folks being affected by this. Galaxy S21+. Can’t swipe it away, whether it’s paused or not, and it remembers the previous items played.
Doing a Force Stop also does not remove it.
Thankfully a reboot does… but I don’t want to be having to reboot every time I finish watching/listening to something on Plex just to get 1/3 of my notification window back…
Hi BigWheel - seems this is a fairly common issue with Android (or possibly only Samsung??) devices. Any chance we can get some word as to whether Plex are taking a look at this? There’s some good feedback/diagnostic work already been done by folks further down the thread which explains the isue in detail.
Note 20 Ultra user here. I’ve been having the same problems but I think I just found a solution. Go to the app info, and then disable allow picture in picture. After disabling this I was able to swipe away the media controls without a reboot.
