Bug: "Playing on this phone" Notifications stuck even after force stopping Plex app

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#: 8.12.2.22756
Android Version#: 11
Device: Samsung Note 20 Ultra

Notification is stuck in the media section of the notification shade. Even after force stopping plex, the notification stays. It may have happened when playing the media on my phone, then switching to chromecast. It may have been directly playing to chromecast from phone. I have played multiple other files since playing the one shown in the notification.

Kernel version 4.14.113-20606551
Plex version 8.12.4.22902

I’ve experienced the Same issue where I stop a movie or something close the app and it remains showing in my notifications bar

Same here

Same issue on samsung galaxy s20 plus.

Same here.

I always use my phone (Galaxy Note 20 Ultra with Android 11) to ChromeCast my media. If allowed to auto-play more than two titles with the phone’s screen off, the app loses its ChromeCast connection, and the “Now Playing” notification gets stuck. Needless to say, the ChromeCast dongle continues to pull media from the server long after the phone “forgets” it invoked the connection in the first place. I now have SIX orphaned “Now Playing” notifications for titles that were playing when the Plex app lost track of its ChromeCast connection.

The only way to clear these obnoxious notifications is to uninstall and reinstall the app, and I’m getting really sick and tired of doing that. This doesn’t happen with any other ChromeCast enabled app I use.

Unacceptable.

Dear goodness this needs to be fixed. The only way to clear these after they stick is to clear data on Plex.

I can get lucky and watch 2-3 episodes, but if it pauses at any point, the notification sticks.

Do they ever check these bugs? I don’t even want to use Plex at this point on my phone.

Guys. Same issue. Please FTLoG please fix this. It’s so annoying.

Same issue.
Really annoying

Same issue here. Version 8.15.1.23935.

We’ve got to keep bumping this. This is definitely an issue with One UI 3.0 (Android 11) on many Samsung devices - i.e. the majority of Android devices sold in the USA.

At first I thought I just hated the Android 11 notification system, but after 3 months of using it now, I realize it’s just plex that is terrible with it. Netflix and Youtube don’t have any issue with properly closing their notifications when chromecast or local playback stops. It’s just plex that permanently is leaving a chain of previously watched items stuck in my notification bar.

The weird thing is that they all say “playing on this phone” when 100% of the watching of plex I do, is on my chromecasts.

It’s super annoying and would love it fixed, like everyone else in this thread.

This is my first post, and I’m motivated by this very annoying bug.

Plex app version: 8.17.0.25120
Phone: Galaxy S20+ 5G
One UI: 3.1
Android: 11

Same here - uninstalling&reinstalling doesnt help, now got multiple completly useless notifications from Plex which won’t go away :frowning:

So…I did find a fix for this, but it’s incredibly stupid. You have to go into your boot settings and clear the cache from there… I’m on a Samsung Note 10, so I can only really advise how to do this on recent-model Samsungs, but in case it helps anyone… To access the boot settings, when the phone is off, hold the power and volume-up buttons for a bit until a black screen with multicolored text comes up. You navigate this with the volume buttons and select with the power button. One of those options says something about clearing the cache (partition cache maybe? can’t remember the full wording, but I’m pretty sure it’s the only one that says anything about cache-clearing). Select that, then select to boot up the phone normally, and voila, the undeletable notifications are gone. Granted, new ones will accrue if you use Plex again and you’ll have to do it all over again, but hey, sometimes you just need a temporary reprieve in order to survive having to put up with Plex’s cr-app. (Seriously, though, just fix this, Plex. The malfunctions of your Android app are getting embarrassing.)

thanks for the info - apart from that only uninstalling helps - very embarassing indeed…
