This is expected behaviour.
If the album and track artists are identical there is no reason to show the artist name twice.

The reason I want the Plex artist field populated from the file’s tag is because it adds the artist name in light grey text after the song names. I like this aesthetically, even if some might find it redundant. Further, if some songs have, perhaps, an alternative artist on a single track then this grey text would only show up against a single song in the list and would seriously trigger some ocd 
I find it odd that file tags contain explicit entries, Artist and Album Artist, and is used everywhere. Plex accommodates for these tags, as it should, but then arbitrarily decides to suppress them “because reasons”?
It also looks like when artist and album artist tags match Plex suppresses the file’s album artist tag and populates the Plex’s Album Artist with Artist. Surely this would cause confusion when you have explicitly named matching fields?
Anyway! Now that I have a better idea of what is going on I can accommodate for it
