BUG: Plex 1.27.0.5897 Erases Track Artists when Album Artist is set to "Various Artists"

Server Version#: 1.27.0.5897
Player Version#: N/A

Version 1.27.0.5897 completely erases all of the Track Artists with the Album Artist when you follow @OttoKerner 's suggestion to set the Album Artist to “Various Artists”. :rage:

There’s no way for me to import compilation albums into Plex anymore without re-entering the Track Artist information on each individual track.

PLEX STAFF, HOW DO WE IMPORT COMPILATION ALBUMS INTO PLEX??? It seems like Plex has declared a war on Compilations from Various Artists since this seems to get worse with each release.

I can’t confirm that.

PMS 1.27.1 (alpha)
Library converted to “Plex Music”
“Prefer Local Metadata” ON

Before and after “Refresh Metadata” of this album, the track artist appears exactly as defined in the meta tags:

Meta tags:

@OttoKerner This is fixed in the next release? That’s good to hear!

I just tested this again. All of the track artist information for the entire compilation was erased after selecting all of the tracks in the compilation and setting “Artist” to “Various Artists”

Can you confirm that this is fixed in the Alpha?

Before and after “Refresh Metadata” of this album, the track artist appears exactly as defined in the meta tags.

Which file container are you using for your music? Mine is mostly FLAC.

The media is being delivered in ALAC. “Refresh Metadata” is grayed out and not an option.

You can’t do that on a single track. Only on the whole album.

Its grayed out for the whole album…

Have you checked your server database for damage lately?

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

I have debug still enabled from a previous troubleshooting session. I scanned 60MB of Plex Media Server.#.log files over the last 6 months and no found no results searching for corrupt or malformed.

Do you have a way to convert this album for a test to mp3 and ideally flac as well?
I’d like to test if the type of file container plays any role in this.

@OttoKerner

Same behavior when converted FLAC. Track Artist is overwritten…

Is your library also set up to “Prefer Local Metadata”?

Yes.

Set the “Album sorting” to anything but “Library default”.

Please perform the Plex Dance with one album. Then fetch server logs and post them here (whole zip, please).

Completed the the Plex Dance and now all of the tracks are showing up as individual “albums” again.

As I was doing before the latest update. I highlighted all of the tracks in the Album and specified “Various Artists” for the Album Artist, and the artists are missing again as described at the beginning of this thread.

EDIT: Forgot to add that the “Refresh Metadata” field is still locked.

@OttoKerner Can you send me a PM for the logs? I don’t want to post them publicly here.

Yes, please go ahead.

Sent.

@OttoKerner Just checking to see if you had a chance to look at the logs? Thanks!
